Artists Describing Their Art:
Ken Hillberry - In art and in life, dynamics of balance, integrity and tolerant interaction of all elements or participants ought to be see, experienced and maintained. At the same time, the challenge of affecting this balance is creatively encountering all changes and adapt accordingly. For some, the destination or pre-determined outcomes are sought more often than not. Then there are some who savor the journey, thus witnessing and enjoying developments along the way. I fall into the latter category. It's like watching the film develop in a darkroom. the image takes form a little at a time right before my eyes. The creative process, for me, is void of pressure and timeless. The ability and practice and discipline are central in my approach. My creative intent is to engage a viewer in thought and emotion, as well as, with their eyes. Using imagination, retrospect or model, my range of composition can be conceptual, perhaps impressionistic or abstract in application, but always developed to evoke an awareness and appreciation for the relative conditions in life experience and art form as I incisively or playfully interpret my experiences along the way. ...
Legassi Brumbaugh - Legassi Brumbaugh has lived in the Austin area most of her life. Her artwork is inspired by African American history, culture and heritage. While her earlier works featured strong representational graphite and charcoal drawings, her latest works are more of a loose abstraction of form in a sea of color. A majority of her works are with watercolor and charcoal. Legassi also uses egg tempera, graphite and oil. Her influences are the late Dr. John T. Biggers and Paul Goodnight....

Mario Robinson - Early in his development, contemporary artist Mario Andres Robinson began looking at the great masters for inspiration and technical insight. An avid student of realism Robinson studied the elemental principles of painting by exploring the work and technique of Old Masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Degas and Caravaggio. However, it was the work of 19th and 20th-century American artists that provided Robinson with the strongest stylistic foundation, helping him forge and define his own artistic sensibility. The work of Mario Andres Robinson fits squarely within the tradition of American painting. Robinson's finished works bear a close affinity to the masters of the realist tradition of American tradition, Andrew Wyeth and Thomas Eakins. Containing few references to modern life, Robinson's work has a timeless and universal quality, and exhibits a distinct turn-of-the-century stylistic aesthetic. The images he chooses, which refer to a bygone era where solitude and reflection were abundant, also provoke allusions to the paintings of Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper. While a confluence of styles has exerted varying degrees of influence over Mario Robinson, the artist's individuality asserts itself. He is capable of exceptional technical proficiency, which he uses to convey his ...
Pim Van Der Wel - Pim van der Wel (1950) combines the art of making watercolours with his work as a business economist. After lessons in all the basic drawing techniques by two Dutch painters in the periods 1980/1987 and 1994/1996 he specialised himself in watercolours. Watercolour offers hardly any limitations, so he can show what he likes and that is light and shadow in dents, creases and gloss etc. His objects are sports (mainly football), cans, torsos, animals (cows, sheep, dogs and chicken). In the last 10 years his work has been shown at (group-)exhibitions in the Netherlands. Some galleries have his works permanently in stock. ...

Jonathan Benitez - my art is a storytelling in visual form.my images are my attempt to extricate memories from my past experiences as a child.i live in a coastal community where the daily toils of the fisher folks are my sources of inspirations. beauty sometimes do not reconcile with certain aesthetics. but i found it in exploring realities, there is beauty in depicting the human conditions, the other side of happiness, the negative feelings as effected by pain and sufferings but unspoken.the best art in the world is not about happiness but its about depicting what happen to humanity. ...
Eileen Kane - As a professional artist, I focus primarily on the moving figure. I'm intrigued by the beauty and vitality of the human form in action and in interactions with others. I try to render the gesture of three-dimensional motion by playing with figure/ground relations in my 2D work. I've worked with dancing figures created in water-based mixed media on both paper and canvas. Most recently, I've been making ink "gestures", using an ink dropper to suggest the quick motion. I add watercolors to some of these to develop the composition and mood through colors. In addition, I create 3D figures, with wires of different gauges and hues as well as found objects including seaweed and shells. These 3D works are either suspended or built upon wire supports. Most recently I have been refining and "abstracting" both the figure and the movement. The results have been small/large acrylic abstracts as well as the ink drawings shown here. ...
Nabil Kanso - Nabil Kanso's paintings project a wide vista that reveals a compelling view of the world. Delving deeply into the reality of terror and war in affecting our lives, the images of pathos and tensions evolve to a universal expression on human brutality and suffering. ...
Alan Falk - In the tradition of great figurative painting, my work reflects a synthesis of craftsmanship, conscious and subconscious relationships, and emotional and social content. It is an ongoing quest to define the sublime and the ineffable and a deep heartfelt yearning for harmony. I am energized by the belief that here, at the dawning of the 21st century, the process of creating art through traditional media is very much alive and continues to evolve and remains as relevant as it ever was. The primary influences on my current work are diverse Judaic sources including biblical passages, prophetic writings, rabbinical teachings and contemporary Judaic philosophy that shape my conscience. These timeless commentaries, informed by the core moral and universal humanistic values of Jewish tradition and ethos, are an integral part of the shaping of our western civilization, as they encompass a fundamental desire for personal spiritual and global peace, equality and social justice. The jumping off points for my paintings are these universal metaphors and messages of good and evil, questions and commentaries on integrity and moral/ethical choice, parables on mortality and the quest for spiritual connection. Through careful crafting of thematic coloring, expressive line, I attempt to develop a new ...
