Artists Describing Their Art:
Robert P. Hedden - My passions are plein air painting landscapes, mostly in oils, and life/figure, mostly in watercolor, plus some portraits. I also work in acrylic, pastel and mixed media. When I can't paint outdoors I am working in my "Studio On The Narrows", overlooking the St. Lawrence River from Wellesley Island NY. My subject matter is eclectic and along with my mood will influnce the medium. I am more interested in the creation process, rather than being master of one medium, subject, or style. Inspiration comes from the Thousand Islands area on the St Lawrence River where I live. Travels and museum visits also spark inspiration. In April 2009 I formed Plein Air Painters Thousand Islands Region (PAPTIR) in order to promote Plein Air Painting as well as art in general in the region. A new venture in 2012, I organized the 1st Annual Studio Tour U.S. Thousand Islands. Twenty seven artists at 21 locations participated and we are working on the 2013 tour. ...
Khalil Dadah - My artwork is ment to reflect the trajedies of mankind . It's the safest way of expressing onself , in a world flooding with oppressors , fanatics and opportunists. I believe that most international crisis are created through the uncontrolled growth of population. I wonder why men of art and thought are not giving this dangerous phenomena more attention. ...
Hasan Abu Bakar - Painting has been my hobby since my younger days, but I started painting seriously in 1997, soon after my retirement. Since then creating art holds the key to my life's journey. Art is a form of self-expression that allows me to reach out to the world surrounding me. Always experimental, my discriminating approaches often lead me to new worlds of thought guided by the images materializing before my eyes. My work is contemporary and, as you see, I love color, and that is my primary tool of expression. Intense color is the one characteristic that all my artworks in numerous styles and media have in common. I use color in abstract pieces to show balance, transformation, and interaction of energies. These pieces are created in many layers. Something of each layer is allowed to show through to increase the sense of multiple dimensions. I do collages and watercolor too, but for me, more deep feelings come out with acrylic or batik painting. I now process my art work by manipulating my paintings and drawings with a computer. With those media I can fulfill the strong contrast I work with, and which are part of my style....
Devon Henderson - Devon Rose Henderson Artist's Statement " The closer to the Grave we go, the more we see with God's eye, for like the pine tree from the cone, we see the purpose of things that grow from the smallest signs"-Keith Henderson I have always had a strong interest in Modern/Contemporary artists such as Thomson, Harris, Van Gogh, Andrew Wyeth, Alex Colville and April Gornik. What draws me to these artists is their interest in the capture of light and shadow, movement and stillness, detail and the element of the spiritual within nature. One sees within their work, reverence for the elements of nature and an elusive something unseen beyond nature. What distinguishes their art is purposeful selection, the underlying consciousness, order, and judgement their sense of purposeful selection presupposes, the same unseen qualities that quicken their concept of nature. Such artists do not only "hold the mirror to nature" as William Shakespeare suggests, but reach outward to touch what Shakespeare called "the divinity that shapes our end." My current series of paintings are worked in acrylic on canvas. They focus on the haunting ephemeral quality of the land which surrounds my community and the transience of clouds ...
