  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Timothy King - ARTIST STATEMENT and BIOGRAPHY STATEMENT I find painting goes beyond the notion that painted reality is "nothing but " a precursor to a photographic realism. Painting is a phenomenological experiment. There is a synthesis between the visual and the kinesthetic that forms a powerful third range of human perception. Human space and form are not purely optical manifestations. The painting of mass and line can provoke a muscle sense, a physical ness between viewer and the painted relationships. Hans Hoffman called this "Push-Pull". Matisse referred to this as the convexity of pictorial space. In this "meta-vision" or "minds-eye" the painter is not freed from the experience of perspective and local color and the naturalistic geometry of the objects and scenes. Rather, the painter can be liberated by the experience and knowledge of the defining aspects of human reality. Vision encompasses the obvious factors of sight along with other less obvious paths to sensing reality. Human vision is based on a plasticity of structures that tell us more than what a photograph can convey. The visual system, governed by layers of logical relationships, goes much further than a photo interpretation of reality. Painters like Courbet and Cezanne understood ...

Evie Tirado - My journey as an artist began with my first crayon. I have always been in love with color. Over the years I've developed a passion for lines, forms, space, and the spaces between . Be it paint, inks, dyes, or watercolors, each media excites me. I experiment in diverse styles, allowing the subject, materials, and concepts, to influence the final outcome. My work is often a fusion of opposites -- chance and deliberation; remnants of the past link to the present; fluid pools of color, allowed to drip and layer and develop alongside the thick, structural impasto effects. For me, art is a necessity; a surrendering, a discovery, and a celebration. It transforms thoughts and ideals into dimensional realities beyond the flat surface. The interior process of abstraction suspends me from isolation, and connects me with my most authentic self,as well as the rest of humanity. ...

Agnieszka Ledochowska - I freez paintings to see the moment as eternal and lost. The colors of blood and nothingness join the subject as a visitation of life and death. A fragile moment is destroyed and transformed by the presence of symbolic color. The vision of a christening and an epitaph in each image withers the instant into an indestructible flake, embalming life captured in a camera click in a shroud of meaning. The hard scraping edge of a spatula is chosen tool for applying red, black, white, and resinous paint over canvas. he application of color with a knife cuts away the possible in the destructive and tactile act like the movements used to remove a barnacle . Each painting demands a new discovery. The abstracts have led to landscapes with new technique. I tried to "forget about the previous" and sometimes paints over an earlier work as way of "ending up with the past." Each new work is a separate birth. When the work is going well, I'm filled with a sense being complete and being part of it&...

Sandi Carpenter - Due to my endless curiosity and wide range of interests, my work has evolved over the years. Just as a musician would change instruments to perfect the mood and rhythm created, I enjoy moving from one medium to another, be it French dyes on silk, watercolor or acrylic. I am always hopeful that the magic I feel in creating these images will be felt by the viewer with similar intensity. I believe it is only then that art really lives....

Stuart Davis - I live and work in the Czech Republic, for me what is a somewhat alien environment, full of curiosities, surprises and long, deep and depressing winters. I'm not dedicated to a single medium and work in Painting, photography, environmental and conceptual art. you can take a look at

Christine Wasankari - PAINTINGS THAT REPRESENT THE POWER AND INTEGRITY OF THE NATURAL WORLD. Original paintings direct from the artist's Studio in Clallam Bay, WA. Christine Wasankari has an extensive art background and majored in both Illustration and Advertising Graphic Design at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, Colorado. She has exhibited in Washington, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming and her original paintings and prints are in private and corporate collections in many parts of the US and Europe. She specializes in landscapes, still life, floral and abstract expressionism while utilizing a wide range of media. She is currently living in Washington State near the beautiful and inspiring Olympic National Park. :::::::::::: While I have a formal art education, I find myself breaking rules more and more often and certainly trying to "un-teach" a lot of the formal part of the education. I just do what I love best, indeed, have to do...Create. I am constantly inspired by life and my surroundings. I find that abstract expressionism and experimentation suits me best though I enjoy working representational as well. It depends on my...

John Lynch - John Lynch is a painter, currently working in thr San Francisco bay area. Most of his work is done in the mediums oil on canvas, and oil and acrylic on paper. He has been influenced by the New York School; Pollock, de Kooning, Kline, and the Japanese and Chinese Zen arts. Jazz and the Beat poets have inspired....

Mary-Ellen Campbell - Artist Statement I am very interested in the aspect of our aging society and its accompanying issues of loss of earlier strengths, health and death itself. I believe art can convey something special about this later period that has a beauty and a sadness not accessible in the youthful era of life. As a result, my latest artwork and Book Art investigates obsolescence and aging. I have started to write poetry and incorporate my poems in my books thus intertwining the visual and verbal arts. It is in this format that I bring my previous experiences together. I have continued to develop books that travel on both a physical and metaphysical journey. These themes are explored through personal history, aspects of aging, meanings across cultures and places, and concepts of nature. I make books with few and simple materials. I love to travel and produce portable art relating to my travel experiences and my observation of my themes in other places. ...

David Cuffari - I approach my work as a visual poem. Sometimes the meaning is simple and direct and other times it's more complex. I prefer to create work that is open-ended allowing the viewer their own interpretation of what I present. I am primarily a painter preferring to work in acrylics as it allows me to make rapid revisions which helps keep the work fresh and immediate. The over-arching theme of my artwork is the human condition. I see the fabric of life as woven in opposites. By employing dualities like order/chaos, rough/smooth textures, themes of life/death, controlled effects/happy accidents, rational/irrational imagery, I try to paint interesting pictures that allow the viewer to see the world a bit differently. I am also interested in the notion of time. I don't believe that time is linear but more like an echo. I try to avoid static imagery preferring to create a complex painting that unfolds as you look at it, with layers of imagery and meaning. I do this by preserving the process of editing and revision as I arrive at the final image. Most recently I've been proceeding without a pre-conceived ...

Kamal Bhandari - I am a contemporary realist painter based in India. I did three year diploma in Drawing and painting from Kumar College of Fine arts, Ludhiana under the supervision of Director and Senior faculty Mr.Raaz Thakur. Just back after attending Summer 2011 intensive workshop by Florence Academy of Art at Gothenburg Sweden. The instructors were Andreas Birath, Stephen Bauman and Cornelia Hernes, all my favourites. I have a strong desire study under Ted Seth Jacobs, Daniel Graves, John Angel, Jeremy Lipking, Morgan Weistling, Steve Hanks, Anthony Ryder and Jacob Collins. ...

Sampat Nayakawadi - I have been born & brought up in a village. The artist in me took shape in rural surroundings. Many sacraments of village are imbibed on my mind. I observed many changes taking place in villages. The impressions are still fresh in my mind. The smell of the soil enthralls me. Like nature, the innocent, tranquil & straight Forward rustics appear natural. They are one with nature. They never appear to me different. To interpret their oneness with nature. I selected the common man from the common village. This common man is the central and golden point in my painting. This common is so one with nature that I only sees the outward appearance of him. Many colors are visible in the village. However I specially see the red color. I am impressed by tiles of the houses; walls, red dust spreading in the atmosphere, gray, mossy and white soiled walls. Nestled among the small hills and mounds, the scattered village houses catch my attention. The shape emanating from these houses imbibe on my mind. The sparking light on water during moonlight night, the dark of in the morning & in the evening create mystery. Such sights hide deep into the inner mind, ...
