Artists Describing Their Art:
Durga Kainthola - popular contemporary and historical imagery, blended with fantasy, proffer a path of extensive perennial inspiration of my creative work. By juxtaposing diverse pictorial elements from global sources, newly forged and deeper dimensions of aesthetic and cultural perception are revealed. Here, canvas and paper are not mere surfaces. They are stages upon which theatre takes place; each a stage where drama is visually enacted, is painted. Myraid images, in essence, are metaphorically transformed characters. Whether conscious or sub-concious, the worldly experience becomes an integral part of the actual metamorphosis, rendering a new meaning and depth. Durga Kainthola, 2003...
Patrick Sean Kelley - Behind the Art There is nothing more intimidating than standing in front of a blank canvas and wondering what it will become. There is also nothing more exhilarating. As I begin to apply paint to canvas I find my work seems to be in continuous motion. Always changing. Always progressing. Much like the oil paints that actually embody my visions. I am influenced by many places, things, people and of course, many artists. My latest work is changing yet again. The palette has become softer more jewel toned and the subjects more somber. They speak to me as I paint each stroke awaiting life on the canvas. I am clearly influenced by some of the more modern masters like, Klimpt, Kandinsky, Mirot, Caldwell and as always, Picasso. The art is Inspired by the subject. By a woman's beauty as it is seen and felt both internally and externally. The images in my vision actually seem to mask their true identities as they glance out at the viewer exuding an air of aloofness and mystique. Each stroke is painstakingly smoothed and controlled to create subtle dimensions and color that create the mysterious creatures that appear to come to life on ...

Bryan Patterson - Bryan Patterson is a Vermont artist and designer. Bryan is directly descended from Johannes Lapp, a founder of the Amish community in America. Among his relatives is Henry Lapp of the late 1800's. Henry was an amazing deaf mute carpenter/craftsman and has his work displayed in The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Bryan says, i?1/2I've always had a love of wood and began creating with it before learning of my Lapp ancestors.i?1/2 Bryan started woodworking professionally in 1977 and has had his work featured in several publications over the years. Concretions have added the newest development to Bryani?1/2s work. He and his family harvest these treasures while swimming in the gorgeous rivers of Vermont. The real enjoyment comes from their display of as many wonderful pictures they make in the mind's eye like those you see in the clouds. Mythology of the Abenaki Indian says that "Wana-games-ak, reckless creatures or those who have lost their minds, are little people of another genus, who inhabit rivers. They have narrow faces'like the blade of a hatchet', so only the profile has an outline. Their noses are high and aquiline,'so large as to be all ...
Leyla Munteanu - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Leyla Munteanu I have always felt a special connection with textural surfaces and the human figure. The beauty and strength in human features was a preferred subject in my work. Now I am focusing on the nostalgic. My love for the human figure has evolved into an interest in what they leave behind. Human marks left on objects and surfaces over time become more important than representation of the people who made the marks. I find my inspiration in immediate surroundings, and I hope that my work will lead the viewer to see the beauty that I see. First impressions are everything. Most often my depictions of those experiences are simply my way of saying "you should see what I saw!" Each piece has special meaning to me, which will not necessarily be the same meaning the viewer may attach to it. Art tells us something about ourselves and my work is the world as I see it, a world that brings back memories. I grew up in Bucharest Romania, a town marked by a long history; every place was worn by time or human nature. I'm still amazed by my memories of these places. All ...
Monica Malbeck - I was born and raised in Romania, attending art school there. I graduated in 1974 from a highly successful art pilot program at age 18. Where I was offered exposure to all facets of art from visual communications to industrial design. This was followed by a successful career in fashion design with clients throughout Europe, U.S., and Japan. In 1990 I moved to the United States, and in 1996 I was introduced to digital media falling in love instantly with its versatility. I have been exploring digital design since then, trying to mix digital color and the illusions of texture and shape to capture fleeting, momentary thoughts and my feelings. My style varies depending on the subject being captured, as I always try to let the subject dictate the style rather than try to impose a repetitive style format. I have retired to Hawaii very early from a career as a fashion consultant, and decided to focus on art. My very first submission of my artwork to an international competition in Italy, was chosen among the finalists. I am a self-taught digital artist, and I like to explore a broad range of subjects. In my gallery you will...

Bé Van Der Heide - Artist Statement I do work mostly in series. The images shown in my portfolio are examples of different series all executed over the last ten years. Some of the latest series such as "Dance of the transient forms" and "Collapse" have recently been exhibited in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain. The most extensive series is called the "ENFANT TERRIBLE" series. These are drawings and paintings, mostly of a little girl and her family and friends. The rather menacing images of a seemingly helpless frightened little girl, being held tight or prettied up with bows in her hair, are inspired by photographs in my family album. In these drawings I am not interested in a photographic likeness, but I try to express a feeling about these people in the pictures. Part of the series were shown in the LCP Gallery in London during summer 2002 and in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain November 2003. The series before "Enfant Terrible" is called: "WEBS", inspired by the sight of insects, leaves, dried up larvae; all caught in a Spiders web underneath a box on top of one of my work tables in the studio. They have been considerably enlarged; some paintings...
Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...
Cherise Khit - I would like to use my arts as a way of communication or a shout out. It is to inspire, to enlighten, to awake, to make aware of, to alert, to touch life and to bring someone into a different perspective of mind and world. I don't really like to give my artwork a title if I have a choice. I don't like to explain my artwork in details, it somehow restrict and affect human's imagination. I will rather choose to let everyone to have a room of their own imagination towards my art pieces. I would like THE ART to speak for itself. As I said, maybe that is the way of communication between two hearts through art. I like people to take part with their own heart. As I am not a very expressive person in word. I find art is able to express the mixture of my feelings that cannot be described by words alone. Its Bizarre, abstract, surreal, magical, mysterious and AMAZING.
Avinash Shamdasani - Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the Art of the Creator. Artists come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the Art lives on. On many an occasion when I am creating art I have felt touch by something sacred. In those moments; I felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists. I become the stars and the moon. I become the Lover and the beloved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the artist and the art. I become the knower and the known. I keep on creating Then it is the eternal art of creation. The creator and the creation merge into the wholeness of joy. I keep on creating And creating And creating Until there is only . The ART - Avi& MJ ...
