  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Kamal Bhandari - I am a contemporary realist painter based in India. I did three year diploma in Drawing and painting from Kumar College of Fine arts, Ludhiana under the supervision of Director and Senior faculty Mr.Raaz Thakur. Just back after attending Summer 2011 intensive workshop by Florence Academy of Art at Gothenburg Sweden. The instructors were Andreas Birath, Stephen Bauman and Cornelia Hernes, all my favourites. I have a strong desire study under Ted Seth Jacobs, Daniel Graves, John Angel, Jeremy Lipking, Morgan Weistling, Steve Hanks, Anthony Ryder and Jacob Collins. ...

Basant Soni - ECO-FRIENDLY ART Creative use of my creators resources - My Organic Art does not impact the environment or waste paper and therefore trees. I feel that I am earnestly using waste of organic materials which could have been perished with course of time. But it is one of the God's natural gifts in their rarest forms to create a new and use my imagination and intuition. Waste not - want not - many papers saved can equal many trees. I do not want to waste my natural resources in any way. ...

Robert Tittle - I like to experiment with different surfaces, such as painting on burlap, I like the challenge of painting clean edges on the rough, bumpy and fuzzy surface. My creations have led some viewers to described them as having characteristics of romanticism. My desire is to stimulate emotions and imaginations, to invoke curiosity in the viewer and create a feeling of being there in the location the painting depicts. I hope my paintings reveal my spiritual character, my faith in God, and the beauty of nature. I have been taught, when an artist puts creativity and spirituality into a painting, they will then have something to leave to the world. ...

Sara Adrian - Iconic art, the symbols of alchemy and the mythology of culture has always held an interest for me. I use color and symbols combined with familiar imagery to talk about social issues and stereotypes. There are specific ideas that I present in my work, but I feel it's very important not to be too specific as I want the viewer to come to their own conclusions as to what my art is trying to say. My purpose is to make the viewer think about what they see and what they believe in, and create a dialogue. The media I use in painting is oil and acrylics mixed in with metallic substances, such as gold or aluminum leafing, iron oxide, or metallic tinted paint, combined with strong design and chroma. I want the work to react to the light changes in the environment, and be an active participant in the space. The strong color combined with the wood I prefer to paint on is to echo the medieval byzantine iconic painting of which I find much inspiration. It's important to me to combine aesthetic with content, and this is what I work to achieve. ...

Sharon Ebert - I paint because I love it! Born and raised in Chicago I now live in Fiji, in the heart of the South Pacific which has given me a kind of peace and tranquility that I discovered living on the ocean, along with elevating my sense of humor. I paint what I see and feel, always experimenting with new impressions that I put on canvas. I like to call my work "Gentle Surreal Escapes". I hope my paintings are enjoyed as much as I enjoy creating them....

Minh Hang - Through life struggle I was able to understand the profound meaning of my surrounding. Each experienced take me to a different level of awareness and a vision with wiser perspective. Art was a mean for me to coped with all the hardship and struggle in my life, each time i pickup a paint brush i went in to a trend that take me deep down to the cord of my spirituality until i feel my hand was guided by a super being, at this stage i found my sense of security. The process of creating is like a journey to discover a new self and a new world. I like to provoked the deep sense of my emotion where i can create mood that give me the excitement and energy in the process. to me, I found that black and white visually give me a pure sense of reality and raw emotion like a documentary told the story the way it is. with just a simple medium such as black charcoal, ink and acrylic to convey an idea on to a canvas through light and shadow, form and composition to form a visually excitement finish piece of art work. ...

Jerry Ross - Manifesto of American Verismo By Jerry Ross, 2012 "American verismo", a movement that I have recently founded, is a catch-all phrase for an artistic style that draws its main inspiration from Italian art, both classical and modern. There is an implied nostalgia for work done "dal vero" (after life) whether classical (Raphael, Rubens, or Caravaggio, etc.) or 19th century (the Tuscan I Macchiaioli school) or more contemporary. Verismo is somewhat akin to contemporary "atelier realism" but the latter has been criticized for an academic uniformity and its over attention to details. American verismo is more poetic and linked to post-impressionism, the Milan-based Scapigliatura ('wild hair') movement, and the I Machiaioli's commitment to social issues. But like atelier realism, American verismo is associated with a painterly sketching style, use of broad brushstrokes, and the alla prima, "direct attack" technique of painting. It is also linked to all'aperto (open air) impressionist-style landscape painting. In short, to pleinairism which has become widely popular in recent years. I first introduced the term during several classes he taught at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene and then later at the "Angels Fight Road Art Center" plein air retreat...

Enaile D. Siffert - Most of my inspiration comes from nature, literature, movies, music, mythology and folklore. My artwork goes from stylized to realistic and from fantasy to classic themes. I work with several mediuns: oil on canvas, graphite, soft pastels, pen and ink, watercolors, colored pencils, etc.

Daniela Huhurez - Since my childhood, I have been in touch with the artistic environment, having spent most of my time in my father's studio, a gifted painter. I studied Graphic Arts both in the high-school and university. I graduated in 2004 the University of Arts, and in 2006 I obtained my MA diploma in Fine Arts. When I work I always try to have a balance between my emotional and my rational approaches. Sometimes I draw several sketches spontaneously, because this is what I feel like doing, other times I have to elaborately shape my ideas from a more consciously perspective. My drawings are a part of myself and this is the reason why I do believe that the 'unconscious' and the 'subconscious' are deeply intertwined and play a decisive role in the process of creation. As a technique, I use the ink on paper. I choose carefully the sort of paper either finer or more textured depending on my next piece of work. I like the contrast between black and white because it is strong and eloquent, capable of captivating the onlooker. Sometimes I use a certain colour for its symbolism, for emphasizing a state of mind, a feeling. ...

Zsuzsa Naszodi - The art of painting for me is a straightforward process of visual representation of my feelings in response to a given subject. Be it a human face, landscape, a still-life or a fleeting gesture of a scene in a cafe, they all serve as triggers for emotional movement which I try to translate into the language of line, shape and color. My fascination with the world of Art, started early in my childhood but it was only when I felt free of my obligations as a mother and a successful business woman, that I could devote myself entirely to development of my second career as an artist- painter. After few years of an arduous process of picking up the essentials of the painting techniques as well as visual thinking and color experimentation, I feel myself ready to exhibit my work and thus closing the creative cycle which begins usually with the initial sketches and exploration of the subject in which I am interested in any given time. I believe in inspiration and part of my process is concerned with achieving that blissful stage in the creative work when the technique doesn't occupy any conscious thought and flows smoothly...

Stephanie Vandem - Born and brought up in Brazil and Paris; and educated in France, London, New York and Florence; Stephanie is a contemporary figurative painter inspired by the old masters. She brings a variety of influences to her striking work. From vibrant South American scenes to darker portraits set in snow covered forests, each painting has a unique story to tell. Having started her artistic career as a costume designer at the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, she also worked in New York and the Cayman Islands before settling in North East Scotland. An accomplished puppet designer, she now focuses her considerable talents on painting and art tuition, and has recently started to take on portrait commissions. ...
