Artists Describing Their Art:
Leila Desborough - Artwork should project the spirit and emotion of the subject as well as an initial impression. I do not believe we should follow the path so many others have taken and my art does not fit in the sculpture "mould". Sometimes it is well recieved and sometimes rejected but I found that my own path must be followed if I am to continue with a desire to create "Greedily guarded for so many years in the beasts grip The beasts named guilt, fear and repression She broke free one day and flew up and away out of their hold Light and free like a child she danced into a new world innocent beyond her years Knowing that now she is able to dance her own dance"...
Gretchen Grant - Welcome. I have been painting murals for twenty years. In 1996 I acquired studio space and began working on canvas. My expressive realism graces many private collections in the United States and Europe. Recent oil sketches, on archival mat board, are affordable originals, making them a great start for first time collectors.Commissions for special subjects are welcome. A rendition of someone's new home would be a treasured house warming gift. In 1999, I began exploring the intaglio techniques of drypoint, line etching and aquatint. My prints have been quite popular, reminiscent of Goya, Tiepolo and Rembrandt, each plate is worked to bring out the spirit or atmosphere of my subjects. Artist proofs are available as well as small editioned prints (editions from 3 to 50). I often create hand made books out of a series of plates. They become a travel log of sorts, depicting the beauty of places I have visited. Enjoy! www.gretchengrant.net...
Andrew Zega - Andrew Zega and Bernd H. Dams create architectural watercolors of historic American and European buildings and garden ornament. Their work is prized for its realist technique, employed to bring destroyed structures back to life, if only on paper, and is found in the foremost international public and private collections. Trained as both architects and historians, they are also authors of five books on architectural history illustrated with their drawings. They exhibit regularly at Didier Aaron, Inc., the Manhattan-based Old Master paintings and drawings dealers (see "Galleries" below), where a number of their watercolors are on permanent view. They also exhibit at the Galerie de Bayser, 69 rue Ste-Anne, 75002 Paris. Museums and public institutions that collect their work include the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, the National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institution (with three works); The Musee des Arts-Decoratifs, Paris (with six works); the New-York Historical Society; the Museum of the Ile-de-France at Sceaux; Princeton University; and the Avery Architectural Library of Columbia University. Pim Van Der Wel - Pim van der Wel (1950) combines the art of making watercolours with his work as a business economist. After lessons in all the basic drawing techniques by two Dutch painters in the periods 1980/1987 and 1994/1996 he specialised himself in watercolours. Watercolour offers hardly any limitations, so he can show what he likes and that is light and shadow in dents, creases and gloss etc. His objects are sports (mainly football), cans, torsos, animals (cows, sheep, dogs and chicken). In the last 10 years his work has been shown at (group-)exhibitions in the Netherlands. Some galleries have his works permanently in stock. ...
Jorge Gallardo - "Creating beauty through art" is the theme of my artwork. My art is something that I love to share with the world; an expression of myself. The main message I convey is beauty; beauty is a universal quality associated with harmony of form or color, excellence of craftsmanship or originality. These qualities embody my art. I want you to view the painting or drawing and be part of it; if it makes you feel happy, inspired or uplifted, I've accomplished my goal....

Niina Niskanen - Often my art is a reflection of my state of mind. I like to fill the surface with delicate patterns and textures. The colors to be rich and deep but there also needs to be emotion, movement, something that catches the eye. Things that speak to my are probably different that the things that speak to the viewer because we are all too different and I donA't want to reveal too much. Art is all about experience and for me as an artist, it is also about personal growth, the journey. ...

David Evans - My artistic driving force is my continued obsession with four motifs - people, bicycles, buildings and landscape. I sometimes interpret these singly or coalesced within one work. The underlining inspiration for a good deal of my work comes from re-working and distorting quite traditional themes from art, literature, poetry and music. I like to jump the margins between illustration and fine art. Sifting recently through my work, observations, ideas and responses, I think itaEURtms fair to say that I see life, art and my surroundings in a somewhat quirky and whimsical visual wayaEUR| David Evans - Macclesfield Cheshire ...
