The era of maritime romanticism, which came in the 18th and 19th centuries, included famous people - seafarers, writers, and artists whose lives and work were connected with the sea and maritime themes. Among them
Herman Melville - author of the novel Moby Dick, which explores the theme of whaling and maritime adventure.
James Cook - British navigator and explorer who made several voyages to the Pacific and Southern Oceans.
Lord Byron - a famous poet and writer whose poetic epic The Ship of Fools also had a maritime theme.
Edgar Allan Poe - author of a number of mystery and horror stories, often with maritime overtones, such as The Heart Cut in Three Parts.
Caspar David Friedrich - German painter whose landscapes and sea paintings reflected a romantic view of nature.
These names and others epitomize the spirit of maritime romanticism and contributed to the literature, art, and scientific research of the era.
My paintings convey the atmosphere of suspense and adventure that accompanied the maritime
expeditions of bygone times. I pay particular attention to details such as the shape and movement of the waves and how they move.
The waves as well as the authenticity of historic ships. I use classical techniques and oil paints,
