Artist Statement -



Painting Watercolours is a great moment for me, its when my inner world comes out and I show myself without masks. I try to transmit my “romantic” feeling through my paintings .
I paint landscapes but also abstract or informal subjects.
My oils are most of the time Masters’ Copies, it’s a moment for learning and increasing my approach to art, but it’s also a challenge with myself and a way for me to give tribute to the great artists of the past.
I’m also fascinated of a person’s stare, a portrait is something special and unique for me because I can paint someone’s portrait only when I can catch his/her stare and related expression, that’s the same for my imaginary portraits.
Being born in Brazil, and now living in Rome, gives me a opportunity of touching the Past, living the Present and getting ready for the Future at the same time...the Eternal City...that’s my research of Life=Art!

I've tryied to catch the best of the Italian light and atmosphere, looking for special places and using the classical watercolour tecnique.

Clovis, starts from an alike abstraction made of symbols, which are eyes, faces, until forming soft figures that have a deep philosophical sense together with their artistically feeling.
He’s always aware to be in his interior world . Who observes his paintings gets caught and a quiet sense reaches one’s soul. The serenity of the tender bodies painted on the paper, forces one to think of how is important to work on one’s interior world too. The colour signs are generally soft. They are pink, violets and blues but there’s also some highlights of extreme feelings shown through violent colours, such violent as much can be the birth experience.
The artistic roots of Clovis Aquino are deeply attached to the Oriental philosophy from where the harmony shown on his works comes from.
