My passion for painting was inspired by the abstract expressionists, although I am perhaps more philosophically aligned with process oriented artists such as Chuck Close and Richard Serra, even though my work looks very different. Working in the vein of Gerhard Richter, I apply oil paint to canvas in multiple layers using various tools, however I rarely utilize brushes. This often results in a dynamic tension between rough texture and smoothly blended paint. My process yields a great variety of form, texture, and color relationships that energize the surface while simultaneously generating pictorial depth and a sense of movement and time.
