Artist Statement -

My art is a way of communicating the resolving of the conflicts that occurs in all our lives. Whether it is a confrontation with another, struggle against the world, or a clash against ourselves; the figurative imagery represents the conflict as it is worked out on paper or canvas. When my work is going well I feel a sense of power and rhythm from the action of drawing, of moving through space with minimal effort and obstruction. No distraction just on to the next move. Much like mastering Tai Chi or some other martial art.
I am constantly searching for the right pose to convey the right body language. I want a certain amount of challenge to the forms, negative space and contour. I try to use colors that have vibrancy. The most important element for me is gesture it is the movement of the line I enjoy most.

Sam Thorp delves into Obvious Flaws. Glitches, and defects staring us right in the face, yet we fail to notice them. The solutions to all our problems are plain and simple, yet we never figure it out. What are we missing that is right in front of our face? This work sorts through the filters and clutter to get to the essence of the matter. Revealing character and narrative in graceful lines and primary colors.

Works from Sam Thorp'sVoyeuristic Intentions series are on exhibit at Wixard of Oddities. The gallery does short shows, so try to get there soon!

Several of the pieces are framed with reclaimed windows, playing up the sense of watching a private moment. The palette that Ms. Thorp uses is sweet and pale. The subject matter addresses starkly intimate moments, which creates enough tension to intrigue.
