Artist Statement -



If art is a language to express myself, then inspiration ought to be the very life in which I am. And societal issues troubling me every so often, and sometimes my own dilemmas… Lies in the foundation of all a moral and humanitarian urge to question, shaped by one’s own ideologies. Indubitably to me, starting off with strong concepts devoid of mass-market meretriciousness, putting them in a story line and choosing the right material to ensure a firm expression make up the indispensable principles.

I maintain that an artist, and naturally his work, can not be deprived of a reflection of his ideology. In a sense, your ideology is a prime source of your stance in life.

Of course, fine art can result even without these concerns, but to me, art requires a process where life is taken more seriously. In my opinion unbiased art, or artist, can not really exist.

FACES & DREAMS a Tahir Un's Tale

C’e’ la famosa storia della fotografia di B.Newall che tratta in piu’ volte, della diatriba su arte pittorica ed arte fotografica, lasciando il lettore e lo storico senza risposta certa alla domanda: la fotografia e’ una forma d’arte oppure solo uno strumento di riproduzione della realtà? In tanti anni passati nella fotografia mi sono fatto una mia opinione, e come tutti vado alla ricerca della sua conferma. Ed ecco che casualmente il mondo virtuale di internet mi fa cadere su un fotografo che forse, piu’ di me ha cercato in questa direzione, proponendo alcune risposte di valore. Tahir Un, Ankara, turchia, giorni nostri, un Artista definitivamente tale, un uomo che applica le tecniche dell’immagine fotografica mettendole al servizio della comunicazione culturale globale. Un fotografo metafisico, oserei, un uomo che dietro alla macchina fotografica non pone solo l’occhio ma, tutta la sua cultura e la sua esperienza di vita, un inconscio filosofo nella fotografia.Un uomo che risponde alla altrui curiosita’ con la sua domanda, personale opinione stilistica, la quale trascende i luoghi comuni fotografici, inserendosi come proposta nella mente dell’osservatore. La sua opera è permeata di richiami simbolici, propri di una cultura con influenze mediterranee, richiami validi solamente se si entra in rapporto con l’autore, se nell’opera si cerca una personalita’ trascendente l’estetica. Un Uomo, che alle soglie del 2000, rifiutando la mediocre semplicità dei media, afferma la propria unicità con coraggio e generosità, della quale gli sarò sempre grato. Le opere presentate in questa esposizione fanno parte della serie "Faces and Dreams", 15 immagini, 15 diversi rapporti umani, in fondo solo ritratti, molto personali, doni dell’Artista all’identità dei soggetti rappresentati, simbolo della propria sensibilità e personalità. Che dire d’altro di un’artista che ci fa provare il desiderio di essere suoi modelli?

The Web brings us in the western hemisphere within a click of exotic foreign lands and sights. Tahir Un’s photos take you even farther-into a surreal dream in ultra colors and poster-style graphics. His photography takes you beyond the frontiers of both the pictorialists and the straight photographers to a dimension bordering on digital collage-but without the "pasted-in" look of collage. His juxtapositions are both strange and natural at the same time, as in your brightest dreams. Like dreams, these images carry a potent payload of emotion. ...
