Artist Statement -

Painting contemporary impressionism and realism, the artist Tal Dvir is grounded in the classic approach inspired by the masters Velasquez, Rembrandt, Murillo, El Greco and Pissaro. Tal’s work is a reflection of life and its surroundings.

Moved by his childhood memories of his grandfather’s work, Joseph Gusdin (1899 - 1980), Tal developed an affinity for landscapes, flowers, portraits and figures. From the beginning, Tal sought perfection in his art supported by sketches, deep contrasts and smooth to loose random blending and rendering with soft and abstract brush strokes.

While exhibiting a natural talent by as a young kid, Tal started early and never stopped following his passion to draw and paint. At 16, Tal was admitted to the prestigious Witzo School of Art in Tel Aviv. Under the tutelage of Professor Pinchas Rosin, he acquired the technical skills to channel his natural talents.

From 1989-1994, Tal attended Meimad and Kalisher visual art schools, also located in Tel Aviv. He studied under accomplished local artists Harold Rubin, Maya Cohen-Levi, Michael Segen-Cohen and others.

In 2006, Tal moved with his family to the US, opening a new chapter in his career. Influenced by American artists John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, Cecilia Beaux and Thomas Eakins, Tal turned his attention toward portraits and landscapes, painting in his own unique style. Subjects include from outdoor sceneries to life models in pre-directed poses, using the Alla Prima way in painting from life, also supported by photo references.

As an artist with natural talent, Tal continues to experiment and develop his unique style, one that has been exhibited in California and recently in Arizona where he currently resides with his wife and two children.

Tal Dvir writes about his art
When asked to describe my work, I try to avoid parallels to any specific contemporary vain. My work has evolved through different periods of iteration. Generally, I find myself drawn toward classic realism; not hyperrealism, but rather the exploration of contemporary variations to the traditional style in a painterly manner. I use the classic approach as a platform to explore new and unique expressions. I see my work as a process of constant reinvention. I find it is simply a process of encapsulating one’s perceptions and decoding them through my work.
