Artwork Description:
THE GLASS ART BOWL WAS PLACED IN THE HEAT OF KILN .. AFTER ALL LIQUID RED GLOWING, WAS TAKEN OUT AND IMMEDIATELY SUBMERGED IN THE BOWL WITH COLD WATER.. HISSED.. AND CRACKED SOUNDS.. BOWL WAS READY TO BE RE-CREATED INTO OTHER.. THE PROCESS HAD BEGUN.. Glenn Briggs, Glass Artisan ever helpful, did the heat and dump.. Dolly, our Glass Enamel Tech , advised and pointed out, what to do next.. Both warning, of dangers of cut, since pieces sharp.. and small.. Bowl cooled off on the counter top.. specially for hot glass works.. then I was told, to take it home.. place it in sturdy plastikbag.. put some protective glasses on.. use hammer.. and tpp the bowl in places, where I wanted the glass off.. which was for me the heavy, bulging middle part.. collect the glass for re-use.. I put it off, until two hours before leaving for this Wednesdays Glass studio work. Didn't use the hammer.. but a weighty rock.. You notice the copper area(here already ahead in process) where the glass broke off.. Carefully placed it in other plastic bag.. and took it with me.. Next was.. at Glass studio- to place the plaate in acid.. shortly.. then on cleaning surface.. and scrub the dark parts until red of copper showed.. then rinse off.. dry carefully.. and gum and flux areas..(flux is clear powdered glass).. Then place it on these metal supports.. and in kilns heat.. which would smooth everything- so I could re start creating process.. And this is the stage, you see it at present.. Ready for re-newal... I intend to leave spaces with copper showing through.. Will see.. also, most likely, Bowl shape will be flattened.. and maybe one more coat of glass on back.. before I start creating on front. Next Wednesday.. evening.. it will look 'different'.. yet familiar..
