Artwork Description:
This piece concerns, cinematograpy, photography and digital art. It is a reference piece to the Director Visconti - Death in Venice. His unrivalled approach to cinematic imagery has inspired and influenced my own work, I wanted to create a masterpiece and I photographed 20 different images to assimilate the necessary subject pieces. The actual image of Venice is an etching which i ran through up to thirty photographic light filters. The surround is wood from an old farmhouse in Mid Ulster, I needed to exact a certain decay in the image and came across the old farmhouse. I photographed the rusting bolts of the roof beams and I found an old piece of car wreck to add a metallic feel to the image. I also wanted to add movement in reference to Mahler and a downbeat feel in reference to Thomas Mann. The overall idea was to weld the various mediums into a digital whole. The actual project entailed four months from conception to finish. The finished image is one off and printed into a deep red Irish Linen canvas.
