Artwork Description:
My paintings on paper from 2008 and 2009 draw influence from advertising, abstraction, minimalism and graphic design, as well from ideas by people I know and interact with, and the books I read.
I have always been fascinated by the allure of advertising: by the slick, colorful and bubble gum reality it sells us and, at the same time, by the controlling power these images hold.
In these works, I have combined ideas taken from literature, people’s philosophies and my own beliefs, with primitive organic elements taken from marine life and other sources. By using the same graphic tools that advertising draws on, I offer blank spaces to non-commercial ideas and private observations. I am very interested in the interaction between text and image, and between the visual and mental components in these works. These texts are also meditations on the difficulties of the creative process.
