This painting is a tribute to Millicent Forbes – the woman who grabbed national attention for her steadfast resolve in her decade – long fight for justice over the police killing of her daughter Janice Allen. Forbes died before receiving the justice she fought so hard for.
The policeman who was who was prosecuted for the crime never faced the court because the record for the gun involved in the shooting could not be found. He later migrated from Jamaica and lives overseas.
On the day of Forbes funeral a letter was read from the policeman in which he all but confessed to the “extra Judicial” killing of Janice Allen.
The painting is comprised of twenty 20 panels each measuring 11.5”X 9” titled “Justice Denied” and ten 10 panels measuring 11.5” X 9” titled “A Policeman’s Confession”.
All images on the panels are transfer prints from actual newspaper reports from the Jamaica Observer dated 19.7. 2010 and paint on canvas mounted on board.
