Artwork Description:
Burn is part of a series of works that reflect the theme of container/containment in human lives. Humans collect and pack away their lives in boxes of one kind or another until eventually they are themselves collected and packed away in a box. Each boxes tells a different story; some specific others vague and dream-like.
Burn is about passion, or rather, being consumed by passion.
Burn was exhibited in juried shows, All Things Considered at the St. Louis Artists' Guild, St. Louis, MO in
Aug. 1997 and State of the Arts '98 at the Florence Events Center, Florence, OR in July 1998 where it won the 2nd Place Award.
To construct this piece, I used sisal and jute twine, yarn, steel wire, silk habotai, silk crepe, rayon, cotton and cotton/poly fabrics. The techniques used were stamping, shibori, silk painting, photo transfers, sewing, weaving, machine quilting and vat dyeing (synthetic).
