Artwork Description:
Paradise is an essential myth in the 3 monotheist religions. It is the ancient origin on mankind, while also being a utopian image of its redemption, destination, refuge and hope.
Miri Chais converted the heavenly paradise into a digital one, in which, Adam and Eve are represented as cyberspace ghosts, detached, alienated and with no identity. They are part human figures and part collage of graphic images. This paradise incorporates casual daily icons with images implying of danger and threats such as biohazard and radioactive radiation signs.
In Chais's paradise, you will find lit spectacular insects and imaginary creatures, comprising quotes of international signs and pictograms. Thus the viewer is flooded with a mix of known and enigmatic images.
Chais is using lights and lightning elements the same way a painter is using paints. She generates volume in optical elements by manipulating the light going through them. The lit objects are mode of state of the art materials such as laser cut Perspex and computer controlled LEDs, combined with sound and music.
