  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Suzanne Lambert - "My intention is to visually demonstrate, thru color, tone, and composition, energy and the underlying movement within All of life. Energy of life is evident to me, I wish to bring it to the attention of the viewer, to enhance perception, to lift the soul. I wish to express the beauty which I see and feel in this adventure which we call 'life'. To move beyond limitation, expressing movement to find a freedom beyond rational procedure...an execution of genuine activity." ...

Suzanne Lambert - Michael Greene - My inspiration for my present body of work involves life and death in an environmental sense. Being at one with nature, I paint trying to understand nature's true purpose, as I feel that we are just guests amongst the land and its true wonders. The trees represent the kings of the earth, with their mystique and their sheer size, yet year after year they continue to amaze us with their blazing colours, before they seem to leave us forever. ...

Michael Greene - Alexander Mikheychik - Until recently, it was too painful for me to part with my paintings, but now, it seems to me, they should bring joy to other people. I've been practicing yoga for more than 30 years and have a good sense of aura of other people and things. I think that paintings are energetic objects and have their own aura. Aura is the basic factor influencing the spectator (not just the form and color - factors that are essentially secondary). All the masterpieces known in art history have high inner energy that could be measured, even in quantitative terms. The painting's energy is a compound of the energy of the painted objects and characters, the energy of the painter himself, but, most importantly, the energy of the painting gets higher depending on how close the artist came to the understanding of the harmony of the surrounding world. Only then he becomes the mediator for the energy, the source of which is much higher than his own self. When an artist begins to interact with the harmonic foundations of the universe, with the energy of higher source, it starts to influence the rhythm and the harmony of his paintings. The artist ...

Rosemary Golcher - Rosemary Golcher graduated with honors from University of Costa Rica in 1995, majoring in Plastics Arts with painting emphasis. Besides this, she obtained a diploma in technical drawing in the same university. In 1996 she started working in "Museum S.A.", an art restauring company owned by Raul Aguilar. Since them she manages to combine art restauration works along with painting, digital photography, imprints and making glass works. She has taken vitral classes with professor Aldo Canales in University of Costa Rica, as well as art restauration in La Habana- Cuba, Firenze-Italy and in Costa Rica. In the year 2000 she enters artist Marcia Salas' workshop of engraving metal and wood until the year 2001. She has participated in several arts showcases of painting, engraving and drawing in Costa Rica, United States, Chile, Spain, Germany, Poland and Mexico. In 1996 she obtained mention of honor during the Vl Bienal Pfizer, tribute to costarican water painting. Actually she has her own workshop at home where she continues working on art restauration and making art. ...

Tim Tero - i began painting after taking some painting courses w/ jon imber at the museum of fine arts school. jon imbers teacher back in the day was phillip guston. i am currently starting a series of paintings based images from the tokyo metro. i am obviously influenced heavly by contemporary japanese culture. but, also there are many contemporary painters, such as neo rauch and ena swansea that i'm very inspired by. film, espesially asian cinema has also been a big influence. more later......

Jerry Sauls - As I see it, the challenge to me as an artist, is not only to paint nature in all her glory and diversity, but also to capture the emotion a scene evokes and incorporate that emotion into the mixing of paint on my palette and into my brushstrokes as the paint is applied to the canvas. Detail, color and texture are as important to my work, as light and the elements are to nature. When planning a new work of art, I like to think about something I have experienced, and how the image can be influenced by natural elements like light and weather. Often, I will begin working with a particular image in my mind, and as I progress, wonderful things seem to happen, transforming my visual image as it is passed onto the canvas. As a result, the completed work is sometimes very different from my original vision. ...

Armand Cabrera - My goal as an artist is to convey the joy and awe I feel when witnessing the beauty of the world we inhabit. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I paint everyday because it is what I love to do. Painting is the most fulfilling work I've ever found. I am dedicated to strive, at all times, to be the best artist I can be and to paint for as long as I am capable. Alla prima painting presents the challenge to record my immediate experience of the land. The subject can be as simple as a willow branch touching a stream or as grand as a sunset in the Rocky Mountains. Painting from life is extremely rewarding to me as an artist. I find it the most honest form of painting. Standing with an easel before the land---that's when all the years of practice come into play--- the discipline to record the fleeting moment on canvas before it disappears forever. Always remember that the land supports us---that we are part of it--- connected to the earth in ways we can't fully understand. We must be ever diligent...

Daniele Lemieux - My work is a celebration of humanity as represented by the universally familiar. I seek to instill the commonplace with the same reverence given by 17th century masters to objects denoting wealth and social position. As an antidote to modern day excessiveness, my deliberate choice and treatment of objects is an invitation to revisit the quiet dignity and poetry of the basic form. Objects become icons; valued for usefulness, not decoration; acquired through need, not through want. Stripped of artifice, they are symbolic of the desire to return to that which is true. My compositions are often loosely based on the classic triangle and are centered in the picture plane. This combination allows for a calm balance that can border on the spiritual. My artist's eye edits out the superfluous, seeking harmony and peace, offering the viewer a place where order replaces chaos.contemplation leads to an affirmation of self-worth. "The profoundest order is revealed in what is most casual." (Fairfield Porter) ...

Terry Matarelli - My life is all about process. It's the getting there that interests me. My art is similar in that I like the process of making something from nothing. I've spent years landscaping and building a cabin in the woods, as well as doing artwork, and I love taking a bare piece of nothingness and making it something, walk away and don't look back. I strive for a nice finished product, but it's the getting there that keeps me going. I'm not interested in pretty. Be real. Painting is paint on a surface. Any materials, for that matter, have their own essential being, and bring that spirit to the work. I look for that material to speak to me, say something to the viewer, and say whatever it wants. My work is mostly figure ground relationships. I've been drawn to the figure all my life. I'm interested in the drama of life and living, and the endless possibilities of the interaction or isolation we encounter. I'm not looking to represent surface reality, but rather emotional or spiritual reality. I want to get under the skin and see what's going on. I like...
