  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Josef Jobst - For me, doing art is a meditation and an affirmation of life, that lifts me above the problems of everyday. My passion for colors let me take the artist-name "Chromosoph" (greek for "Color-Lover" or "Color-Thinker") I started as a realistic painter. Now I'm a figurative painter but I love the infinite freedom of abstractions... so most of my art is "figurative abstraction" My artistic influences are based in the art of the early impressionists, the "School of Barbazon". Like the work of those artists, I explore the space between realistic and abstract art - in a rich and diverse stylistic texture. ...

Chuka Machie - I am a self taught artist from eastern part of Nigeria in West Africa. My style of art work is not consistent since it fluctuates between realism and aabtract. They depict different level of life and forms though I prefer to work mostly on theme that portrays African(predominantly Nigerian)way of life and culture....

Mircea Popescu - Mircea Popescu Statement In my work time is an active element. I paint like I build a sculpture using simple forms, lines and textures representing days, hours and archetypes such as: books, letters, numbers or primordial elements. The surface; canvas, wood, or paper is painted from dark to light, a technique used in the byzantine art. Using classical principles, the golden section, the structures of my compositions are based on rigorous diagrams of simple geometric figures. Considering that contemporary art is characterized by invention and experimentation, texture becomes an essential element of my paintings that comes naturally from the way the paste is applied, transparent layers of paint creating new surfaces. Light is the most surprising element in my paintings which is a result of my technique; the method I mix the primary colors, pigments and other substances What is interesting, not all of them contain the same light, but all of them radiate energy. ...

Barry Boobis - Musical Visions is a body of work devoted to all themes of Music. These themes traverse the worlds of jazz, dance, rock, nature, spirit, and beyond. These musical themes are explored in the universes of realism and abstract, often combining both at a level of Spirit. Having practiced Zen meditation I see all mediums of art as One, which is derived from the ancient Buddhist scriptures. My Greatgrandfather wrote the "Hatikvah," national anthem of Israel, and my father was a jazz piano player, as well as a commercial artist, so the genetic splicing is readily obvious. The heritage of music, as well as art and spirit informs the work, and I offer it as a form of celebration of heightened sensibility. Joyousness, rapture, and expression, not just existence! As artist- in- residence at the Bluenote jazz club in NYC, and a participant in the Newport Jazz Festival and the Saratoga Jazz Festival for many years, I have had the great opportunity to bring this work to lovers of music as well as art throughout the Eastern Seabord of the USA. I now welcome the opportunity to bring it to the world- at- large through absolutearts.com. Please celebrate with me! ...

Kristen Thiele - My current work deals with the settings, the dress, the accoutrements, and the gestures that signify a desirable life, and the participation of people who activate these elements as a form of ritual. It's about the potential for excess and the details that make it proper; the artifice and drama that make ordinary things magical. My imagery is derived from the motion pictures of the 1930s and 40s. They align with the concept of artifice in their opulence and escapist themes. The paintings are about the fleeting, the missing, and the unattainable. As paintings however, they become things that may be attained. There is both the sense of distance in time, coupled with the immediacy of the new, as these concepts and images are reintroduced into our contemporary consciousness....

Seidai Tamura - I dedicate my life to realism, a representational rendition in oil. I am specialized in female nude works. Recently, Ive diverged into an erotic genre along with traditional, academic nudes. Due to controversial contents, I am not able to show my erotic pieces. Please message me, if you are interested to see my erotic works. They sell fast among collectors, but some are still available for purchase. Nicole M. Mathieu - Difficult to talk about art as one should, first of all, feel it. What is more fantastic that listening to a piece of music, reading a novel or seeing an artwork which will transport you deeply inside. For me, Art is not a duplication of what one sees, it should transcend it. My portraits were done in this sense trying to transpose the invisible part of the model. In my recent oil paintings, I try to give sounds with colors which reflects life itself and will remind you of things that seem familiar. Last December 2011, I moved to a beautiful art studio in Paris (near Place d'Italie) and you are welcome to visit my atelier while on vacation. Please call me before at 00 33 (0)663528344 ...

Shelley Heffler - The earth. Cities, geography, topography, streets, aerial photography. Maps of the Imagination deconstruct and draft the world we live in, layer by layer. Born and raised in the Bronx, Shelley Heffler studied with the Art Students League, received a design degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and a Masters Degree in art from CSUN, graduating with honors. Living in Spain, she explored Europe, and traveled by road from Turkey to Pakistan and India, documenting the journey with photographs. Shelley currently lives and teaches art in Los Angeles. ...

Brian Aurelio Piccini - I have always been a strong believer that to enjoy life to it`s fullest one must take the time to stop and'smell the roses'. Nature is full of perfect harmonies which for many go unnoticed. Through my work I love to bring these perfections to light with the relief that in doing so I may enrich the lives of others. More about my life as an artist and a larger collection of work is readily available to you at

Miran Kres - I am not rigid author stuck in my tried and true manner of expression. My interests branched from painting into installation and video and vice versa, because I am exploring the gesture of representation with different "lens." I am finding the way to modernize and rename the formal cognitions of modernism into completely different constellations of meaning. My research on perception and the use of light lead to image spaces where the shades and highlights of colors, blended into each other, create the monochromatic visual effect thus provoking an impression on the observer. Working between those limits and kind of pointing them out is something I enjoy doing because it's not just the fact that you are bringing the cosmos down into the space where you live, but that your perception helps create that as well....

Ingemar Hardelin - Prior to my exhibitions I have ever wondered what really is relevant to point out. Generally I would not say much because my basic position is that the paintings may speak for themself. They live their own lives behind the words. But something overall may be said after all. I choose to summarize most of my production under the term "motion". Since I througout adult life has been a performing cellist on the side of my civilian profession, has music in mostly been a driving force and inspiration. Music is movement, and movement is an expression of life. In the same way I experience my painting. In colors is life, music, rhythm. In colors and forms are everything we recognize, but in addition there are infinite opportunities for new discoveries and experiences. We may be affected, seduced, upset and make voyages of discovery in constant dialogue with what we see. Seeing a picture is like hearing a peace of music over and over again. The experience will never be the same. Most of the time I paint from inner visions where freedom, imagination, rhythm, form and balance are important keywords. Thus, the same criteria that characterize music. The result is...

Hubert Cance - "Multi-talented artist Hubert Cance has an astounding range of work, from fanciful illustrations of knights and medieval machinery to mystical, beautifully crafted paintings. Born in Aurillac, France, Cance's youthful imagination was stimulated by growing up in a house filled with books on local history, folk stories and classical culture. Following his military service, Cance worked as a freelance pattern designer for a variety of scale-modeling firms, a position that strengthened his technical skills. His concise illustrative work has been published in numerous books and periodicals from England to Japan. Cance's attention to detail is a dominant force in his paintings that is rivaled only by his boundless imagination. His audience will revel in Cance's imaginings, a world of elemental spirits, ancient forests, and epic battles. Cance is adept at capturing more delicate moments as well, such as in his landscapes of flowing pine trees or the still waters of Venice cloaked in moonlight. Hubert Cance lives and works in France." (ArtMine) "Hubert Cance is an artist with a draftsman's hand and eye. His work ranges from fantasy explorations of the worlds of mysticism and shamanism to highly formalized aviation drawings and mechanical representations. The...

Reiner Makarowski - I don't like the usage of " uploading the importance and the meaning of artworks by words". I don't like it at all ... and I'm committed not to take place in this marketing game. The main influences of my work seem to be the so called classic modernism represented for example by works of Kandinsky, Klee, Braques a.o. Other influences come from many contemporary painters , for example guys who prefer the so called "lyrical expressionism". And of course I'm on the road to find and establish "my style". ...

Pham Kien Giang - Please patiently listen to! People often say the artists paint by their eyes, but I - myself do not understand why I paint by my ears. I often sit alone, close my eyes and listen to the sound from the life, from the memory, listen to the echo from somewhere "The wind from somewhere is same to the echo of time immemorial My way I am walking has imprinted a lot of the people . The blades of grass, foot of the trees are quivering as talking together The rustle of the storks in the sky is same to calling for the freedom " Suddenly, I am aware of something which . Updated on November 8th 2010...

Vladimir Kezerashvili - I can't paint without a contact with a life object or picture of some sort. Hours of silent observation open a path to the object's beauty from its intrinsic nature. The longer I look and more layers of paint I add "the more abstract it becomes, and, ironically the more real" (Lucian Freud). I have no interest in a search of newness to justify my work; neither have I sought to establish myself via certain painting style or concept. I feel human when I paint, perhaps, because the painting is reminiscent of love and I hope this love is reciprocal....

Armand Cabrera - My goal as an artist is to convey the joy and awe I feel when witnessing the beauty of the world we inhabit. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I paint everyday because it is what I love to do. Painting is the most fulfilling work I've ever found. I am dedicated to strive, at all times, to be the best artist I can be and to paint for as long as I am capable. Alla prima painting presents the challenge to record my immediate experience of the land. The subject can be as simple as a willow branch touching a stream or as grand as a sunset in the Rocky Mountains. Painting from life is extremely rewarding to me as an artist. I find it the most honest form of painting. Standing with an easel before the land---that's when all the years of practice come into play--- the discipline to record the fleeting moment on canvas before it disappears forever. Always remember that the land supports us---that we are part of it--- connected to the earth in ways we can't fully understand. We must be ever diligent...
