This shapely figure of a woman in the surf was painted intuitively. That means the paint was applied abstractly in the beginning but then the artist saw the figure within the colors. The painting then developed so that the viewer could also see the figure that attracted the artist. The splashing waves even seem to resemble a female figure or reflection of the woman. The painting has lots of bumps and lumps from the bold application of paint. This effect is further actuated by the glossy varnish that finished the piece.
