Artwork Description:

a deep fascination for the interaction and interplay of mind and matter steadily manifested itself. after my second trip to india the night skies started to occupy the whole surface of the canvas. these works already revealed a departure from conventional painting styles and a desire to incorporate matter as a counterpoint to the overall ethereal quality of my painting. i worked textures and textiles onto the canvas sometimes painting them over, sometimes allowing them to reveal themselves partially or even completely. these were my first steps in the direction of mixed media and textured works which would be the main focus in the following years
