Artwork Description:
This is the artist's response to an early 1980's Yale Summer Repertory performance in New Haven, Connecticut, of Franz Kafka's "A Hunger Artist" short story (the first stage adaptation, I believe). The short story was published in 1922. Contrary to critical articles, the artist maintains that the "protagonist" of this short story is NOT the hunger artist himself, starving in his cage, but the people who come to view him. Collection of Cynthia W. Cross, New Haven, CT.
