Artwork Description:

A tribute to Ludwig Meidner, Bruno Schulz and Itchky of Itchkys Liberty Kosher Meat Market, Market St., Trenton, New Jersey. Drawing on elements as diverse as European butcher shops of the 19th century, contemporary Brazilian art, vanitas symbolism, and hermetic Cubism of 1910-12, etc., this painting combines a number of different themes to create an IMAGINARY butcher shop, the kind that would be experienced by a youngster entering one for the very first time. The beautiful, the spooky, the unexplained, the dirty, the clean, the bright, the dim--all are here in a childs view of hisher first visit to a butcher shop. Our sense of wonderment remembered, preserved, redeemed from adulthood. It is said that the child experiences life by superimposing hisher imagination on perceptions. I strongly believe this is true. AND... that what most distinguishes real artists from others is the ability to RETAIN this child way of experiencing life.
