I have always loved old signs. My designer brain flips out when I see vintage neon signs. So, I am working on a collection of work that embodies those amazing, old neon signs. What intrigues me most about this body of work is the juxtaposition of the sign and the cloudscape behind them. In this painting, I love how the clouds look stormy and brooding. The dramatic sky perfectly frames this iconic vintage, rusted sign. These paintings allow me to fully embrace my ‘painterly realistic’ style. I always want my painting to look realistic, but never want it to look like a photo. Because of this, I try and capture great detail with the brushstrokes still visible.
