The subject of the painting is so called symbiosis, a phenomenon of close interaction between the human and nature. The relationship between humans and nature is genetic and deeply rooted in evolution. We live in a human-made world where it is easy to overlook and forget about our relationship to the natural environment. Knowing your place in nature can contribute to a sense of meaning and joy in life, to shape attitudes and beliefs as well as to develop appropriate behaviours towards the world around us. Our relationship to nature determines what kind of people we are, parasites or symbionts.
