Mukhtār ibn Abī Ubayd Allah al-Thaqafī was an early Islamic revolutionary based in Kufa, Iraq who led an abortive rebellion against the Umayyad Caliphs in vengeance for the death of Imam Husayn ibn Ali at the Battle of Karbala.
