This picture was inspired by an exhibition of the Famous marine artist Ivan Aivazovsky, which I recently visited in the State Russian Museum in Saint-Petersburg. It is highly detailed oil painting. I applied many layers of color to create a transparent quality for showing the play of light. This painting depicts a sea during storm and a ship pushed up by a great waves.
