Artwork Description:

Switched again 'position' on the 'pew'.. and 'faced the music'... Huge! Organ.. The Organist looked very very small.. hardly could see him.. All this time he played soft, muted but so clear sounds.. I was told, the organ in Linz, Upper Austria was the largest in Europe.. (the city I am born in).. And later on, I was corrected, that the largest 'pipes' are in Passau (did not have the chance, to check that one this time, but will next time ;-).. and such a beautiful, beautiful old city .. look forwards to that!!)... In St Katharinens I was informed, that this- is the largest now... So.. if you want to check on it yourself.. to make sure.. I can confirm, it looked huge.. very shiny.. and sounded beautiful.. When I was in my early teens.. and in my 'dark' moments, I tried the door to our village church in Northern Germany, where the parents house is (10 minutes to the North Sea).. found it to my surprise open.. snuck in... looked empty and nice .. like after sunset mood.. looked around and walked up the stairs.. to where I knew, the organ is.. sang in church chorus and played violin in orchestra.. so I knew the organ.. comparable to this one, it was tiny... almost like piano, which I tried on occasion at friends place, to compose.. Always wanted to try it.. my way, of course.. and my composed pieces.... well.. this was my chance.. I sat down.. and tried pull knobs.. used the pedals.. figured out, how it works.. and played.. and lost time... when I felt presence behind me-still remember this feeling(conscience?). turned around, as if in dream.. and there the pater of our village was.. (the guy who gave me the hardest time in religion classes, which we had to take in elementary school.. Had to always be best .. was expected) and here he was.. caught me, and I had not asked, if I could use the organ.. Expected the worst.. When he looked at me in a 'silent' understanding way... ' sounds beautiful your play.. when you need to be alone and want to come up here.. and play in His house, you are welcome.'.. and he left, with this look in his face... He had sat down in the pews and listened to me all this time .. Have to tell you, I entered this praying house many times.. and felt safe, yet never alone.. playing the organ... Seeing this large beautiful exemplar.. raised yearn for repeat- with the small one in the North... But in this case, I felt so much better, that this organist did not see me.. in the pew.................. Back towards me... ;-)
