Artwork Description:

This artwork incorporates the techniques of intaglio, aquatint, and drypoint. I printed this edition using French oil based etching ink, Charbonnel brand, on STONEHENGE black printmaking paper. What makes this etching unique involves my use of three separate zinc plates, lined vertically on the printing press, to create the work in a triptych format. As in all of my etchings, several workings of the plates occurred with separate soakings in acid baths. My inspiration for this etching was found in a published mystical work by the German scholar and Jesuit priest, Athanasius Kircher, S. J., born in 1602 and died in 1680. He titled his work, OEDIPUS AEGYPTIACUS. I found this during research into the Cornell University Library, Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections. This etching was based on several original drawings I did of the Kircher work. It features the Goddess Artemis, also known in Egypt as the Goddess Isis, with the Triple Crown of Creation. She is pictured here as many breasted Isis. In this edition, which I call BELOVED ARTEMIS OF THE NIGHT, the individual plates measure 4 inches wide by 3 inches high, or 10.1cm x 7.62cm. The print measures 8 inches wide by 14 inches high. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
