Artwork Description:
Please note that this particular etching is sold with a mat AND FRAME. Frame SIZE GIVEN BELOW. This SIX PLATE etching takes its inspiration from the Ingmar Bergman film, THE SEVENTH SEAL. The techniques used include intaglio, drypoint, and aquatint. The work is executed in a rich black oil base ink on Rives BFK white paper, both manufactured in France. The pink magenta color overlay was produced with the Chine collé process, which incorporated a hand dyed mulberry bark paper from Thailand that is infused with kozo threads from Japan. Methyl cellulose was used in the actual printing process, which employed six etchings to make one image. The scene was executed on six individual zinc plates, which each measured 3 inches high, 7.6 cm, by 2 inches wide, 5 cm. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is the third edition of this work, and the edition is limited to only five etchings. The first two editions were prints four years ago, and the artist waited to print the final two editions until the present astrological position.
