Artwork Description:
This piece evolved from an image in one of my sketchbooks. It was actually an image that I had had in my mind for quite awhile. I did several preliminary sketches including a value sketch before going on to complete the work in acrylic. I do not often comment about the actual content of the works that I have done in this manner. I know what they mean to me, but I would prefer that the viewers reflect on the image and decide for themselves what the work means. When I develop sketches in my sketchbboks, I often start by doodling and one shape leads to another until the image evolves. I rarely have conscious awareness of the image before it is created. This work was an exception. In recent years, I have found this to be an exciting way to work. Of course I continue to work from life also, but it is rather fascinating to see these images come out of my imagination. They are filled with content something like the way dreams are filled with content. I know that I have extremely symbolic dreams that are filled with emotion and these images seem to have a lot in common with my dreams. I believe they are expressions of my inner world.
