Artwork Description:
Station number FOURTEEN is entitled, JESUS IS BURIED IN THE TOMB. This wall assemblage was executed in mixed media on stretched canvas. Materials included acrylic paint, mica, titanium dioxide, dried ground pigments, metallic thread, decorative Chinese art paper, heavy duty glue, gold dust, dried Spanish Moss, polymers plastic cast, archival water color tape, acrylic gel, wood, canvas.
The body of Christ, wrapped securely from head to feet in clean linens, lies on a stone slab within a hillside tomb. It rests surrounded by tree roots within the darkness of the tomb. I used Spanish moss to represent the bowels of the earth yet left some empty space around Christ body to portray a margin of hope against decay. The scene vibrates with anticipation, as opposed to desolation, and the viewer feels a sense that this situation is not ended.
