Artists Describing Their Art:

Brian Devon - Born in Dublin, Ireland, my journey in image making began when I was around eight years old. I must have expressed an interest in photography because Santa Claus placed a beginneraEURtms photo chemistry kit under our Christmas tree. My parents had a old fashioned brass bed with heavy blankets that reached the ground. It was under there that I set up my aEURoealchemists caveaEUR and began a life long experiment in image making. For me there is a need to express something more than the perfect likeness that the camera captures, a wish for the a bit of me to be felt in the work. I began trying to enhance my images using various techniques, including applying colour tints from the kits that, in those days, came with Kodak black and white processing. I worked in several studios in Dublin, Ireland and London, and San Francisco and travelled extensively in Montana, Alaska, The Northwest Territories and the Yukon, during which time Ive had the priceless opportunity to work with some great professionals. Ive had access to state of the art studios in which to further my experiments with color, textures, tints and to explore printing techniques both traditional and ...

C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...

Todd L Thomas - Known as "The Artist of Vivid Color", Mr. Thomas coined this statement: "In a world that can be so dark at times, why add to that darkness? Why not shine alittle light?" That statement has been thoroughly expressed and illustrated in his artworks....

Todd L Thomas - Caren Keyser - My expressionist paintings are done using an intuitive process. I begin with the paint and then allow the paint and my subconscious to lead me to the subject matter. Exciting interactions between colors evolve from brushwork, pouring, glazing, spraying and other techniques. I strive to show the essence of the subject rather than paint an overly realistic image. I never know what I will find next in my work. I hope it will be dramatic and emotional. Note that the paintings are not framed. ------------------------------------- I began painting professionally in 1977 after studying art at Florida Atlantic University. There I explored the many styles and techniques available to the acrylic painter. My first photo-realism style piece was created while attending FAU. I knew from that moment that realistic nature scenes would be my style of choice. This remained my theme and style until after 2005. As time has passed my work has changed and become more creative in its processes. Color is still the dominant feature in my work. As my focus has shifted toward expressionism I stored my realism pieces. The originals of many of them are still available for purchase and are included in my inventory here at ...

Paul Pinzarrone - This work is a study of how nature and power rhyme. It is an exploration of candy-colored sensual puzzles printed on high gloss aluminum or on metallic paper and plexiglas. Viewers are drawn in closer to feel comforted yet disturbed, to wonder if it is science fiction or science illustration, mythology or my updated version of art history. This work is my exploration of the dream world around me. This work is digital. I use fractal software, flame painter and amber light software, painting software and digital photography. The patterns are built up using transparent fractal layers, sometimes wrapped around figures and sometimes they become the environment. Their skin is my canvas and the viewer determines if they are photographs of tattoos, painted figures or something else other-worldly. Before I call it art, it must be new....

Ata Alishahi - When I make art, whatever my medium, I enter an internal world of light and creativity, and I escape the external world of shadow and destruction. While I am painting, I not only live in this light-filled world, I create it. In this sense, I have always made art for myself to alleviate my own suffering and the painful memories of the war and violence I witnessed, even as a child. Yet although this work is therapeutic for me, my finished pieces also ask the viewer to join me in experiencing these beautiful worlds, and celebrating the triumph of light and color over darkness. I paint with the same precision and techniques that traditional artists use, but via the digital medium. I became fascinated with digital technologies during my work in computer industry, and I educated myself in the software that enabled me to make art using this extraordinary new method. Although I prefer this medium, I recognize that every visual image, regardless of how it was made, is primarily a message, a story to be told and interpreted. My work tells the story of a world without darknessaEUR"a world that the viewer longs to enter. My goal...

Pauline Van De Ven - I am a digital painter exploring the new medium of vector. My work develops in cycles from figurative to abstract and back to figurative. They are like poles of a magnet. I see a painting as a reflection of the soul. Only if the soul is deep enough the painting will be deep enough. If I look at a painting, depth is really all that matters. Of course the painteraEURtms own soul is in the painteraEURtms blind spot, and we are all covered by the veil of time, so I will only talk about vector. Hard lines, monochrome colors and perfect gradients limit the emotional palette of vector. aEUR~Ceci est un oeufaEURtm 2015 expresses my initial dislike. Still, Vector is the only cooperation between the artist and the computer that offers a new language of form while leaving the artist in charge. On one side we have digital raster painting, where the artist is fully in charge but forms are in no way different from traditional painting. On the other, computer generated painting such as fractal art offers renewal, but the computer takes the lead. These images are impersonal and repetitive and in my view emotionally void. Compared ...
