  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Lisa Reinke - Recognize yourself, someone, everyone and no one in my faces - celebrate color in the shape of a nose, the curve of the ears, the mask of the eyes, and the lines of the lips and hair. Most of all remember the humanity in humanity. The human face inspires me. As humans, we respond to its image beyond all others. For all its familiarity, we rarely pause to consider the face as a visual form, something more than the recognition of a friend or an interaction with a stranger. I paint the face in ways to cause the viewer to reconsider its splendor and renew faith in all things human. Colors and sunlight playing across faces remind me of our connection to the universe and symbolize eternal and fleeting moments simultaneously. I love how we recognize and explore human faces for clues to identity and personality. I am happy to be creating my work and hope that my art inspires you to look around and see the world as a vibrant and exciting place where the most amazing patterns are on display all the time. Claudette Losier - Artistic Statement - Claudette Losier (LosiersArt) "Where Beauty Lies " "The artist knows that even though he has created something beautiful, it can be destroyed. His real and innermost satisfaction is not in the object, but in the subject; that thing within him that penetrates the mystic splendor of Beauty itself." (Ernest Holmes pg 39) One of my bodies of work explores the concept of Paradise as something sought after by modern society. My search centres on gardens--as near as our own backyard and as far away as other continents or the imaginary garden in our consciousness. It has been stated that each garden reflects our longing for spiritual peace--a tie with our primeordal beginnings. It is in the beauty of nature where I find this spiritual peace from a homemade garden to a formal garden, from a tree to the vastness of Grand Canyon, from a rocky coast line to the calmness of a man made pond. In Dr. Wayne Dyer's book "Power of Intention" he quotes from Emily Dickson and John Keats(pg 51): "Beauty is not caused. It is " As you awaken to your divine nature, you'll begin to appreciate beauty in everything you see, ...

Randy Sprout - I grew up in a small town in Northern Iowa, played football, coached the swimming team, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in printmaking studying under Mauricio Lasansky. I then went into the Army and ended up pulling 13 months in Korea on the DMZ. Coming out of Korea I entered UCLA and earned a MA and MFA in printmaking while studying under Jan Stussy and Stanton Mac-Donald Wright. The next year after the funds dried up on my Fulbright Award to Portugal, because of the Angola War, I was lucky to get hired by USC where I taught printmaking as a junior faculty member. I also replaced professors at UCLA when they went on sabaticals, and taught one year at Pierce College. In 1977 I tried Real Estate, you know just for the summer, but by fall I had purchased Century 21 Hollywood Inc. and had a new vocation going. Now 31 years into real estate, I'm coming full circle and starting to paint little quick studies 9X12. I'm using just 1/2 inch brushes and 5 colors. I intentionally limit my time to 2 hours after which I stop and throw ...

Robert Tittle - I like to experiment with different surfaces, such as painting on burlap, I like the challenge of painting clean edges on the rough, bumpy and fuzzy surface. My creations have led some viewers to described them as having characteristics of romanticism. My desire is to stimulate emotions and imaginations, to invoke curiosity in the viewer and create a feeling of being there in the location the painting depicts. I hope my paintings reveal my spiritual character, my faith in God, and the beauty of nature. I have been taught, when an artist puts creativity and spirituality into a painting, they will then have something to leave to the world. ...

Sara Adrian - Iconic art, the symbols of alchemy and the mythology of culture has always held an interest for me. I use color and symbols combined with familiar imagery to talk about social issues and stereotypes. There are specific ideas that I present in my work, but I feel it's very important not to be too specific as I want the viewer to come to their own conclusions as to what my art is trying to say. My purpose is to make the viewer think about what they see and what they believe in, and create a dialogue. The media I use in painting is oil and acrylics mixed in with metallic substances, such as gold or aluminum leafing, iron oxide, or metallic tinted paint, combined with strong design and chroma. I want the work to react to the light changes in the environment, and be an active participant in the space. The strong color combined with the wood I prefer to paint on is to echo the medieval byzantine iconic painting of which I find much inspiration. It's important to me to combine aesthetic with content, and this is what I work to achieve. ...

David Eric Gordon - I try to remain open to all images or visual combinations that inspire me. One consistent element is that my paintings usually involve a process of building up layers through numerous revisions. I often paint over canvases several times, leaving portions of the paintings underneath partly visible. Covering an existing painting rather than starting from a blank canvas can lead to more unusual or interesting compositions by forcing me to make certain choices in responding to the material. The built up layers of paint create a rich surface that becomes an active element, revealing the process of experimentation and revision....

Laura Walker - I am a quiet observer taking snapshots of occurrences in which subjects are unaware of their exhibitions of solitude or bliss. Everything that enters my focus is perceived in a way that resonates with my work. In my view of subjects in nature and urban settings, both share the common motif of wearing new. I take pleasure in transforming what may be perceived as disparging and portray the matter with an optimistic palate of oil paints, making light of reality....

David Cuffari - I approach my work as a visual poem. Sometimes the meaning is simple and direct and other times it's more complex. I prefer to create work that is open-ended allowing the viewer their own interpretation of what I present. I am primarily a painter preferring to work in acrylics as it allows me to make rapid revisions which helps keep the work fresh and immediate. The over-arching theme of my artwork is the human condition. I see the fabric of life as woven in opposites. By employing dualities like order/chaos, rough/smooth textures, themes of life/death, controlled effects/happy accidents, rational/irrational imagery, I try to paint interesting pictures that allow the viewer to see the world a bit differently. I am also interested in the notion of time. I don't believe that time is linear but more like an echo. I try to avoid static imagery preferring to create a complex painting that unfolds as you look at it, with layers of imagery and meaning. I do this by preserving the process of editing and revision as I arrive at the final image. Most recently I've been proceeding without a pre-conceived ...

Colleen Balfour - Welcome to my world of Art from Africa. All my paintings are created in response to the mood of Africa, or at times, the need to escape that mood. I am a self taught artist and continue to learn each time I pick up the paint brush......

Marza Traian - Activitate profesionala: 1998-1999 Lector (cadru asociat) la institutul de grad universitar "Buna Vestire", grecocatolic, Blaj.
