Artwork Description:
This is an impression of my maternal grandparents first enterprise in Trenton, New Jersey, shortly after they were married. I still have my grandfathers cast iron framing jig. The nature of his businesses at this address--202 S. Broad St.--changed over the years, but a frame shop was the first. Apparently the store not only built and sold picture frames, but... BED frames as well. Maybe sold some furniture and or toys also. This probably derives from the old peddlars business model of stocking anything and everything. In his80 s, Pop took a class in oil painting. I was born at this address. Both Sam and Ester came from the same village in Lithuania, but only met each other in the U. S. Their sons, Ben and Joe, had artistic bents. Sam had immigrated to the U. S. about 1895. He led a colorful life. 92 years of it. His biography is entitled, Hats Off for Freedom.
