  • Artists Describing Their Art:

    C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...

Azhar Shemdin - I am interested in experimenting with liquid acrylic, using resist material which is anything that is placed on the surface of the painting that impedes the flow of liquid paint. When the resist is lifted, an unexpected outcome is revealed. Sometimes the outcome is not what I wanted, and I cover the surface with paint and go for a second, third or even a fourth try, until I am completely satisfied with the outcome. The end result is a wonderous world that comes from somewhere and is revealed on a canvas surface!...

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. I use digital photography and imaging to envision the concepts originating from the creative pulse. An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. Royane Caldwell - Artist Statement At present, I am almost completely absorbed in visual arts. My academic education consists of western and non-western art, philosophy, music, anatomy, physiology and holistic medicine. I am extremely interested in exploring the relationship between dreams and the collective unconscious and their intuitive reflection expressed in my art. Both my paintings and photography have been shown in a number of venues over the past few years, and are in private as well as corporate collections in Canada and the United States. My search for meaning and my attempts to illustrate contemporary mythology are based on a central certainty of stored remembrances, genetic memories that resonate at our deepest levels. I use organic forms, anatomical structures, icons, and symbolism to draw obscure truths. Art to me is a conduit, crossing the boundaries of seen and unseen, feeling and memory. ...

Denise Dalzell - October 2019 I recently settled on some keywords for my work, so I will begin this edition of my statement with the following Painting. Illustration. Expressionism. Pop Art. Modern. Realism and, occasionally, a bit of Abstraction. And while grumbling about writing my statement again, I have had an insight regarding my work. So here we goaEUR| How do we, as people of differing backgrounds, cultures, and experiences interact with each other Are we different people in a crowd than when alone How do we fit in or stand out where we find ourselves at any given moment My current work centers on my consideration of how we respond to each other, the stories that develop between us and around us, and how our collective stories reflect on and influence us individually. How do our stories bounce off each other and combine to create new stories. My paintings are illustrations of the scenes that I encounter during my travels abroad and in daily life so, some scenes are more sweeping than others. Stories can come from anywhere, and thereaEURtms no predicting what theyaEURtmll reveal. Body language, movement, color, contrast combine to illustrate my scenes of interaction between people and ...

Claudia Nierman - Some words about my work: The images I produce are deliberately enigmatic and multi-layered. They invite the viewer to engage in the process of storytelling whereby dreaming and living are woven together as a tapestry. I find the sources for my work in the urban environment: window displays, torn posters, graffiti, broken architecture. In short, the remains of man. These objects and situations are eventually transformed by rain, sun, reflections, and shadows, as well as additions made by the passerby. Shaped by the forces of chance, these ephemeral visions are captured on film (and now also in bits and bites) and used as raw material that merge one into another forming a new identity. The result? On one hand, a strange amalgam of my preoccupation with time and memory, and on the other, the way in which the deliberate manipulaton through photographic images can give us insight into our personal and collective struggles. Technical information: I usually work in three different formats: 25 cm x 30 cm and 32 cm x 45 cm printed on cibachrome paper; and a large format of 57 cm x 80 cm, digitilizing the final image and printing it on canvas. (Since this latter ...

Vincenzo Montella - Vincenzo Montella was born in Benevento, Italy the 7/14/1952 and lives in Naples where works as psychiatrist. He is graduated in Medicine and Philosophy and specialist in psychiatry and family psychotherapy. He is artist, poet and photographer. He studied photography at the Toscana Photographic Workshops attending courses of William Allard, Michael Yamashita, Machiel Botman, Alex Webb, Jeff Jacobson, Arkady Llove, Sarah Moon, Carol Dragon. ...

Jim Lively - Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism, or somewhere in between, I am most influenced by both the beautiful and unattractive components of contemporary urban culture. Many times, one painting will reflect both components. My art tends to focus upon interesting juxtapositions of close-up images of human faces. Often, the larger images border upon realism and are caught expressing a panoply of emotions usually directed at the other images that share the canvas. Several of my recent works such as the tongue in cheek entitled "Lenin and Things" contain unlikely combinations of images such as a statue of Lenin which is dwarfed by a billboard size fashion model displaying a vacuous stare. A number of works contain both large images and interrelated small images. For example in the painting "Staring at Natalie", all the smaller images are a depiction of a collective group of voyeurs staring at a larger image of a posed fashion model. I want those viewing the painting to be the ultimate voyeur. The viewer is not only drawn initially to the larger image in its own right but also cannot help but then notice the relationship of the smaller images to the large image. Works displayed ...
