When I came back to thestudio one day, the cat had scattered my colored pencils all over the work area. Rather than pickup the pencils, I began to study them. Thus, began the Pencil Series. What to pencils mean It is a huge step away from scratching on a cave wall but the same idea--communication. Instruments of communication have moved us toward civilization. We all start learning with PENCILS, the digital learning comes much later. First we learn to hold the pencil, then make marks with it--then words. This pencil is juxtaposed the ancient wooden references, with beautiful tangled vines. Out of this ancient spiral of accidents came the pencil. framed
