Artist Statement

When I first saw enamelwork that was done over 1000 years ago, my two passions of history and art came together.

I work with a grammar of ornament that comes from the past, especially the 'barbarian' cultures of ancient Europe, but my goal is to speak to the present.

I do extensive research in archaeology, anthropology and philosophy which inspires and informs my work. I am constantly renewed by the daily experience, in front of the kiln, of transformation by fire.
