Artwork Description:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS SOLD UNFRAMED AND WITHOUT A MAT. This etching used six zinc plates to produce one image. I wanted to give the effect of a cinematic film being broken up into individual still scenes. The etching techinques of intaglio, aquatint, drypoint, and Chine colle were employed. The work was inspired by a scene from the Ingmar Bergman film, THE SEVENTH SEAL and is executed in a rich black, oil base ink on RivesBFK white paper, both manufactured in France. The blood red color overlay was produced by the Chine collé process, which incorporated a hand dyed mulberry bark paper from Thailand that is infused with kozo threads from Japan. Methyl cellulose was used in the actual printing process, which employed six etchings to make one image. To repeat, the scene was executed on six individual zinc plates, and each one measured 3 inches high, 7.6 cm, by 2 inches wide, 5 cm. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the cost of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added. This is the third edition of this work, and the edition is limited to only five etchings. The first two editions were prints four years ago the artist waited to print the final two editions until the present astrological alignments of Samhain in 2018.
