Artwork Description:
The title of this etching is THE GIANT HUNGER. This is from Edition ONE of THREE, Print Number THREE of FIVE. The two zinc plates employed each measured FOUR inches high by SIX inches wide, or 10.160cm x 15.240cm. The etching size is 11 x 15 inches, or 27.940cm x 38.100cm. The media include oil-based black etching ink on white RivesBFK paper. This Di Falco etching was inspired by and adapted from a photograph of a 1987 sculpture that he took in Bern, Switzerland. The sculpture’s, The Fountain of the Baby Eater, shows a giant ogre eating a naked child. Moreover, the monster carries another sack full of plump angelic looking babies slung over his shoulder. No historians or art specialists are exactly sure of what this monument symbolizes, but folklorists offer a variety of origins for this narrative sculpture. Some believe it portrays KRAMPUS, the DUTCH demonic Santa who punishes naughty children at Christmas time. Please note that this etching is shipped to the buyer without a frame or mat. This keeps the price reasonable and also allows the collector a wide range of choice in framing selection. For shipment, a sturdy cardboard box is employed. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping box and securely packed with bubble wrap. The ABSOLUTE ARTS DOT COM price does not include any shipment cost, but does include wrapping materials, handling, and shipment carton.
