Artwork Description:

The full title is, THE EGYPTIAN TOWERS AND THE TURQUOISE VIOLET NIGHT. This etching employs the techniques of INTAGLIO, AQUATINT AND DRYPOINT. The image is taken from an albumen print created between 1865 -1889, and the scene shows a series of Islamic towers in Egypt executed in the Malmuk style. This original photo is from the A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection, Cornell University. My etching is executed on two individual zinc plates placed on the press simultaneously to produce one image. The singular plates measure 6 inches high by 9 inches wide, making the image 12 inches high by 9 inches wide. The print size measures about 17 inches high by 15 inches wide. A hard ground was used on my zinc plate, and I employed seven nitric acid baths before being satisfied with my final image. I blended several colored oil based etching inks from Paris, Charbonnel brand, and printed on RivesBFK white printmaking paper from France. THIS IS THE SECOND EDITION OF FIVE Second best print out of five. The third through fifth editions shall be printed sometime between 2018 and 2021. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added. I believe this work captures the sacred aura of this period before electricity polluted the night skies over Egypt.
