  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Yuming Zhu - I land my brush with the force of a giant rock splashing into the ocean. I am not looking for a beautiful painting, but to express Life itself. Painting is just like a stacking of passions. Painting is a method of striping myself naked and facing the truth of my inner emotion. I invite the viewer to experience through my paintings the joy of being alive right at this moment. I believe I can do lots of things, but painting and poetry are the best beloved channels to express my complicated emotions. Originally from Shanghai, Yuming began studying under the masters at a young age. After his BA from China, Yuming came to the States and graduated from Sonoma State University with his MA in 1991. Working in oils, pastels and ChineseSumi Watercolors, Yumings work is a unique blend of East meets West artistry. It is a style that Yuming refers to as Transism, in reference to the constantly evolving interests, which include observations on modern life, a love of music, and an exploration of his own unique heritage. I paint to achieve balance and harmony. Once I reach that, I will for sure break itaEUR aEURoeMy art is just...

Johann Van Den Noort - Dutch native, painter and artist JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT (Kampen 1940) has an undeniable bond with the sea and therefore maintains a unique position within the modern art world. His passion for the sea and the way this passion is visualized through his original art form, secures him a position in the ranks of today's art world. JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT's paintings summon feelings of sovereignty. An exuberance arising from meeting the elements and visually capturing an abstract image into an emotoinal reality. Wim van der Beek, arteditor. JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT dominates all technics in the art like: oilpaintings, watercolours, gouache, graphics, ceramics and sculptures. His total oeuvre consists of over 5000 pieces of art. There are a lot of publications from him by radio, TV, newspapers, artmagazines and catalogues. Most of his work found a way to important art-collections all over the world. In 2005 Johann van den Noort was decorated by the Dutch Queen as Knight of the Dutch Lion for his complete works ...

Daniel Clarke - Daniel E. Clarke is a Los Angeles Native who has been painting his entire career in the Los Angeles area. His art education has included studying under the internationally famous Timothy Clark, UCLA Extension University, and Glendale College. He has explored both pictorial and abstract designs but is dedicated to a free flow of color and dynamic composition. Mr. Clarke has concentrated on the acrylic and watercolor medium, and paints on location in his Los Angeles based studio. He also maintains his paintings and sales in his own company called Berrypunch Gallery. ...

John Sims - Following some thirty years working as a graphic designer and illustrator I began stone carving in 2000 and in 2002 I returned to college at Christ Church Canterbury in England to study BA Fine Art. In 2007 I went to the Cyprus College of Art to study for a Post Grad Diploma in Fine Art under the great Cypriot artist, Stass Paraskos. At the end of the course I was asked to stay on and run the Summer Schools and to be tutor on the Post Grad course. An incredible experience and an enormous influence on my work. My work now involves less stone carving more often found timber or kebab sticks My drawing in some respects has turned a full circle in the sense that prior to sculpture my illustration work was colourful but painstakingly detailed and stylised. At college I concentrated on measured observational life drawing in pencil which fed into the simple lines of my mainly figuratively based stone carvings. Whilst in Cyprus I re-discovered colour in both my drawing and sculpture. Dreams and mythology filled my waking and sleeping hours. Oil pastel and oil sticks became my favourite mediums to quickly capture these glimpses of ...

Pol Ledent - I am a self-taught artist. I was born in Belgium o, 23rd October 1952. I started painting in 1995 . I took some drawing lessons in the art academy in Dinant. I try to paint the landscapes of the countryside where I am living : the southern part of Belgium. Firts I took part in many collective exhibitions . Than, I had personal exhibitions in Rochehaut (Galerie La Potele), in Dinant (Galerie L'impression), in Paris (Rive Gauche Galerie Artimus) in Brussels (Galerie G-Loft).In 2004, I had three exhibitions, again In Rochehaut, galerie La Potele in May. Then, in September Exhibition Libr'art in Libramont. In November, Galerie Impression in Dinant. What people like most in my paintings are the colours. My art doesn't speak to the intellect but to the soul and to the feelings. Talink the risk to seem old fashioned , I would say it is rather romantic. I wish you much pleasure looking at my paintings. Pol Ledent ...

Dave Martsolf - Dave Martsolf Dave Martsolf was born in 1949 in Kansas, moved to Western Pennsylvania in early childhood and at age 12 moved to New Hampshire where he resides today. MartsolfaEURtms father and grandfather were architects and his mother a professional photographer. Martsolf attended MIT and later UNH where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. His early work was influenced by the great masters and others such as the post-impressionists Miro, Matisse, Kandinsky, Klee, Picasso, and the surrealist Salvador Dali. Architectural instincts developed due to his close association with architecture in his youth. DaveaEURtms focus has been in visual arts his entire life. His style extends from realism to surrealistic to fantasy and abstraction. His work uses the mediums of oils, watercolors, inks and pencils, to the more technically-oriented media of computer-based art. Beginning in the late 80aEURtms Martsolf spent productive time with the tools of Bryce, Poser, KaiaEURtms Power Tools, and similar photo editing and photo manipulation products. He was creator, owner and artistic director of Damsel Software Group in the 1990aEUR2s as a producer and manufacturer of original content screen savers. Today, Dave has returned to handmade art. He continues ...

Eve Co - I began painting and drawing in 1987 and have not stopped. I have a wide range from, landscapes, still-lifes, Hubble art galaxies nebulas, abstracts, florals, architectural art and so much more. I draw every day and paint as much as I can afford. I paint more watercolors than acrylic and oil canvas art. I would prefer more canvas art, but I make do with what I have. I try to express myself in artwork as well as with words. I paint landscapes, the glorious colors of nature, water, the ever expressive sky and more, primarily with watercolors on paper. These paintings are usually thought out and planned because they represent nature as I see nature. I paint still-lifes of everyday objects. To teach me about one particular color, shading and or painting glass. I think of still-lifes as a learning process that literally has me pulling my hair out in frustration, but I still paint through how they make me feel... I am fascinated with Hubble Space Technology so, I paint galaxies and nebulas on canvas with acrylic paints. I have sold many of these paintings and I must admit they are some of my favorite subjects...

Eve Co - Engelina Zandstra - 'In the labyrinth of my thoughts there are many roads leading to the unknown' LANDSCAPES OF THE MIND Engelina Zandstra is a Dutch artist living in Amsterdam, Netherlands. My way of working is spontaneous. It starts with a concept, an idea in my mind, which is in most cases not well-defined. It can have its origin in the images that are stored in my imagination, or in the impressions of daily life. The paintings made in this way can be considered as'Landscapes of the mind', because they are reproductions of the ideas that are formed in my head. The style of the paintings can best be described as lyrical-abstract. Sometimes they are more figurative, at other times fully abstract. Colour is very important for me : the alchemy of colour. This defines for me the atmosphere of a painting. Usually I work in many thin layers of paint on top of each other. I let myself be guided by the forms and colours that develop during the process of painting. Each new layer gives inspiration for the following one, with new ideas. Because of the different layers and colours, the acrylic paint gets depth and character. Sometimes the...

Royane Caldwell - Artist Statement At present, I am almost completely absorbed in visual arts. My academic education consists of western and non-western art, philosophy, music, anatomy, physiology and holistic medicine. I am extremely interested in exploring the relationship between dreams and the collective unconscious and their intuitive reflection expressed in my art. Both my paintings and photography have been shown in a number of venues over the past few years, and are in private as well as corporate collections in Canada and the United States. My search for meaning and my attempts to illustrate contemporary mythology are based on a central certainty of stored remembrances, genetic memories that resonate at our deepest levels. I use organic forms, anatomical structures, icons, and symbolism to draw obscure truths. Art to me is a conduit, crossing the boundaries of seen and unseen, feeling and memory. ...
