Artists Describing Their Art:
Yuming Zhu - I land my brush with the force of a giant rock splashing into the ocean. I am not looking for a beautiful painting, but to express Life itself. Painting is just like a stacking of passions. Painting is a method of striping myself naked and facing the truth of my inner emotion. I invite the viewer to experience through my paintings the joy of being alive right at this moment. I believe I can do lots of things, but painting and poetry are the best beloved channels to express my complicated emotions. Originally from Shanghai, Yuming began studying under the masters at a young age. After his BA from China, Yuming came to the States and graduated from Sonoma State University with his MA in 1991. Working in oils, pastels and ChineseSumi Watercolors, Yumings work is a unique blend of East meets West artistry. It is a style that Yuming refers to as Transism, in reference to the constantly evolving interests, which include observations on modern life, a love of music, and an exploration of his own unique heritage. I paint to achieve balance and harmony. Once I reach that, I will for sure break itaEUR aEURoeMy art is just...

John Sims - Following some thirty years working as a graphic designer and illustrator I began stone carving in 2000 and in 2002 I returned to college at Christ Church Canterbury in England to study BA Fine Art. In 2007 I went to the Cyprus College of Art to study for a Post Grad Diploma in Fine Art under the great Cypriot artist, Stass Paraskos. At the end of the course I was asked to stay on and run the Summer Schools and to be tutor on the Post Grad course. An incredible experience and an enormous influence on my work. My work now involves less stone carving more often found timber or kebab sticks My drawing in some respects has turned a full circle in the sense that prior to sculpture my illustration work was colourful but painstakingly detailed and stylised. At college I concentrated on measured observational life drawing in pencil which fed into the simple lines of my mainly figuratively based stone carvings. Whilst in Cyprus I re-discovered colour in both my drawing and sculpture. Dreams and mythology filled my waking and sleeping hours. Oil pastel and oil sticks became my favourite mediums to quickly capture these glimpses of ...

Eve Co - I began painting and drawing in 1987 and have not stopped. I have a wide range from, landscapes, still-lifes, Hubble art galaxies nebulas, abstracts, florals, architectural art and so much more. I draw every day and paint as much as I can afford. I paint more watercolors than acrylic and oil canvas art. I would prefer more canvas art, but I make do with what I have. I try to express myself in artwork as well as with words. I paint landscapes, the glorious colors of nature, water, the ever expressive sky and more, primarily with watercolors on paper. These paintings are usually thought out and planned because they represent nature as I see nature. I paint still-lifes of everyday objects. To teach me about one particular color, shading and or painting glass. I think of still-lifes as a learning process that literally has me pulling my hair out in frustration, but I still paint through how they make me feel... I am fascinated with Hubble Space Technology so, I paint galaxies and nebulas on canvas with acrylic paints. I have sold many of these paintings and I must admit they are some of my favorite subjects...

Engelina Zandstra - 'In the labyrinth of my thoughts there are many roads leading to the unknown' LANDSCAPES OF THE MIND Engelina Zandstra is a Dutch artist living in Amsterdam, Netherlands. My way of working is spontaneous. It starts with a concept, an idea in my mind, which is in most cases not well-defined. It can have its origin in the images that are stored in my imagination, or in the impressions of daily life. The paintings made in this way can be considered as'Landscapes of the mind', because they are reproductions of the ideas that are formed in my head. The style of the paintings can best be described as lyrical-abstract. Sometimes they are more figurative, at other times fully abstract. Colour is very important for me : the alchemy of colour. This defines for me the atmosphere of a painting. Usually I work in many thin layers of paint on top of each other. I let myself be guided by the forms and colours that develop during the process of painting. Each new layer gives inspiration for the following one, with new ideas. Because of the different layers and colours, the acrylic paint gets depth and character. Sometimes the...
Royane Caldwell - Artist Statement At present, I am almost completely absorbed in visual arts. My academic education consists of western and non-western art, philosophy, music, anatomy, physiology and holistic medicine. I am extremely interested in exploring the relationship between dreams and the collective unconscious and their intuitive reflection expressed in my art. Both my paintings and photography have been shown in a number of venues over the past few years, and are in private as well as corporate collections in Canada and the United States. My search for meaning and my attempts to illustrate contemporary mythology are based on a central certainty of stored remembrances, genetic memories that resonate at our deepest levels. I use organic forms, anatomical structures, icons, and symbolism to draw obscure truths. Art to me is a conduit, crossing the boundaries of seen and unseen, feeling and memory. ...
