John Powell - Artist Statement This body of work comes from a community of ideas. My art evoke a dialogue, a message as a language I speak, to create peace in a cosmic dialogue. It speaks in the future tense in a context of time that evoke a feeling of aEUR~time passesaEURtm... The emotional and psychological content of my subject, the way the body expresses its emotion, it contextualizes the concepts of the duality of the meaning of the imagery. My style is an expression of my philosophy which becomes a language using, Post Modern, Expressionism, Latin American Tradition, Surrealism, and soft Classism. It expresses my deep awareness of global issues and is counterbalanced with my cultural heritage. My inspiration originates from lifenature, itaEURtms too spiritual to express. However, it is the same expressive energy as the work transfused between energies which awaken the realms of these energies and evoked them in dialogueaEUR| . I use a certain iconography, which becomes a language. My art has helped me to see that nothing on earth is solitary, all things are interlinked. The unique expression in my art, is an attitudelanguage of my style but is easily understood in itaEURtms emotion. My art Carries ...
Lucille Rella - Color, I can't imagine life without it. We are surrounded by it. Our attention is drawn to it and it creates a variety of moods in our environment. It motivates me to paint. A spectrum of lights and darks, high colors and muted tones get me involved in a painting. The wonderful transparency and spontaneity of the watercolor medium, helps me to utilize these qualities in expressing my art work. ...
Deborah Paige Jackson - I love art and design in all forms and medium, in every aspect of my life. It's a part of who I am and something I can't get away from. I try to use true to life situations when possible. My favorite medium is watercolor because of the beauty of it. It seems to have a life of it's own as it flows and connects with the paper. Yet, the medium forces me to think and use extraordinary control. I am at a point in my life where the thought of art, design, and all the components involved in them consume my thinking. It shows up in my home in decorating, in my garden with landscaping, in my work, even with my family. I look forward to increasing my art presence in my portfolio here and in as many venues as possible. To all who view my work, I wish you much enjoyment. ...
Robert P. Hedden - My passions are plein air painting landscapes, mostly in oils, and life/figure, mostly in watercolor, plus some portraits. I also work in acrylic, pastel and mixed media. When I can't paint outdoors I am working in my "Studio On The Narrows", overlooking the St. Lawrence River from Wellesley Island NY. My subject matter is eclectic and along with my mood will influnce the medium. I am more interested in the creation process, rather than being master of one medium, subject, or style. Inspiration comes from the Thousand Islands area on the St Lawrence River where I live. Travels and museum visits also spark inspiration. In April 2009 I formed Plein Air Painters Thousand Islands Region (PAPTIR) in order to promote Plein Air Painting as well as art in general in the region. A new venture in 2012, I organized the 1st Annual Studio Tour U.S. Thousand Islands. Twenty seven artists at 21 locations participated and we are working on the 2013 tour. ...
Sam Thorp - My art is a way of communicating the resolving of the conflicts that occurs in all our lives. Whether it is a confrontation with another, struggle against the world, or a clash against ourselves; the figurative imagery represents the conflict as it is worked out on paper or canvas. When my work is going well I feel a sense of power and rhythm from the action of drawing, of moving through space with minimal effort and obstruction. No distraction just on to the next move. Much like mastering Tai Chi or some other martial art. I am constantly searching for the right pose to convey the right body language. I want a certain amount of challenge to the forms, negative space and contour. I try to use colors that have vibrancy. The most important element for me is gesture it is the movement of the line I enjoy most. ...
