Artists Describing Their Art:
Derek Mccrea - I have an online gallery showcasing my work at
Carolyn Bishop - I have been an artist at heart for as long as I can remember, yet it's only in retirement that I've had time to pursue my passion. Watercolor and pastels are currently my preferred media, although I have also worked in oils in the past. I am a strong believer in lifelong learning and continue to take classes in painting at every opportunity. Among the best instructors I've ever studied under is Kathy Esch, who continues to be an inspiration to me. ...
Anji Worton - All of my subject matter is from my environment. Sometimes I see a face or notice a group of people interacting and I want to draw them immediately. I am inspired by the brilliant colours of nature, by dramatic lighting, by interesting objects and beautiful scenes. I go through my days framing images in my mind, thinking about how the scene in front of me would look on canvas, and wondering which medium would suit it. I think being an artist is a wonderful gift and to share that gift by producing works of art for others to enjoy is my mission in life. ...
Joanna Batherson - My inspiration for art has come from drawing and the nature surrounding our world. My painting began as a hobby and through taking many courses and instruction from various Maine artists, traveling in USA and abroad, and moving to beautiful California,it has become a wonderful and fulfilling part of my life....
Christie Martinez - We are all just visitors to this life, and I find brevity of that beautiful. Sometimes we are told what something means, but sometimes we discover it on our own. The meaning then, comes from within, and comes out creatively. These are my meanings, my paintings. The way a tree can look sad or joyful. The way the wind can pierce your body or invigorate your soul. My art carries the meanings I have discovered and try to convey with color, line, texture and subject matter. With every ordinary thing bringing something to a moment it's my joy to discover it and create a piece of art that encompasses the brief moment that inspired me. Having never stepped away from your ordinary life, there is no reason to discover it. I like to leave behind pieces of myself, get lost and discover new meaning for myself and I think this is where my inspiration and passion for Art comes from. ...
Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...
Maria Teresa Fernandes - Admiring Teresa's paintings we are touched by her pictorial sensitivity. Difficult task in light colors (volume and transparencies on a clear basis). Few do it due to the required dedication with pallete knife(no brush). It's painting consacrated by the love to paint. Radha Abramo(Renowned art critique)comments at Solo Exhibition Catalog at SESC Paulista in June 84 -( sent at request and reproduced in one of the pages of this site). ...
Cheryl Hoople - Of all the elements and principles in art, my relationship with color is the most spontaneous. I would say that the only constant in my paintings is my desire to use the most audacious, exciting, and evocative color combination I can....
Jorge Gallardo - "Creating beauty through art" is the theme of my artwork. My art is something that I love to share with the world; an expression of myself. The main message I convey is beauty; beauty is a universal quality associated with harmony of form or color, excellence of craftsmanship or originality. These qualities embody my art. I want you to view the painting or drawing and be part of it; if it makes you feel happy, inspired or uplifted, I've accomplished my goal....
Jeanie Merila - Art surrounds my life like a blanket, filling my senses with joy and giving me a place to weep with color. Sometimes art is a mirror of my life, but other times it is what remains after life filters through my vision. My art is about color and light. The way light bounces off buildings in the afternoon sun, shadows flickering like transforming clouds. The colors vibrate next to each other, the patterns of leaves and bricks create harmony. The wavering reflections in windows, puddles and canals continue to fascinate me - sky and water become one. I have painted flowers over and over for 20 years, yet the pure hues continue to blend and dance in my watercolors like newborns. The silence of the ocean as I swim below the surface inspires me. The waves above leave twisting shadows on the progressing, swirling sand. The rainbow fish darting among the coral remind me of insects hovering around thriving buds as I gaze into the mystery of the deep azure, waiting for the turtle, manta or shark. The breath of my soul is often revealed through the mystical depths of the ocean or the burst of color on a fragrant bloom. ...
