Artists Describing Their Art:

Roderick Brown - Roderick (Rod) Brown was born in Western Australia. Rod spent his first 30 years in an arid and remote gold mining town. As a youngster he remembers the great freedom he enjoyed surrounded by the stark but vivid images of the mines and surrounding bush, which he regularly explored. Rod as a child watched his father paint in oils and sketch, in charcoal and ink, portraits of local identities. The early seeds to later pursue art were sown at this time. Rod has enjoyed living with his family in Australia, Europe and the USA. During this time he has visited over 40 countries around the world enriching his life and building on the foundations acquired in his hometown, which was a very multicultural society. Rod decided to explore his artistic leanings taking up oil painting while living in Sydney. At that time Rod was a member of the Castle Hill Art Society and The Hornsby Art Society. Rod has exhibited at many public shows particularly while living in Sydney and has over the years painted commissioned portraits. Rod has paintings in corporate and ...

Though Boris migrated to France in his early days, he retained the dream of the Russia of his memories. Even after several years and dreams turned to delusions, Smirnoff Boris retains the style he was influenced by, that of Avant-Guardism. A look at the Russian Avant-Guard revolution in art throws up the names of several art movements and styles that developed during that period of early 19 th century, Fauvism, Futurism, Cubism being some of them. Though influenced much in his painting tendencies by the master Pavel Filonov and his Analytical Art, we see eminent traces of Cubism and abstract art in the paintings of Smirnoff Boris. Cubism follows the tendencies of presenting the art work in cubical shapes or sizes that have a dimension even within the art work itself. Initiated by Pablo Picasso, this kind of art work found many takers in this age when everyone wanted to do something different. While Picasso was unique in bringing about sometimes ...
