  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Kichung Lizee - After coming to this country from Korea in the mid 60's to study art, among the many forms of Western art that I was introduced to, Abstract Expressionism interested me most. Currently I am in the process of synthesizing Eastern and Western approaches to art. Specifically, I'm adopting the techniques and materials of Eastern calligraphy to Western thematic material, my primary goal being to close the gap between East and West and reach for universal creativity. Eastern calligraphy I learned is a living and breathing spirit, rather than the dead and rigid tradition of thousands of years. It is uniquely a form that conveys the pulsation of life energy. Through it, one can experience all aspects of the living spectrum. Eastern calligraphic form reveals the kind of life the artist has led, as well as foreshadowing the person one will become. It is the art form that manifests the self as a way of life or philosophy of life. It is a powerful art form that operates through direct intuition. As an artist I rely heavily on creative intuition. Moving with changes in the stream of consciousness, my creative intuition somehow brings out the subconscious and superconscious through ...

Judith Smith Wilson - Welcome to the world of exotic animals and culture as seen through the eyes of this extraordinary artist. Follow the mood as Ms. Wilson leads you to the darkest regions of Africa and beyond.....She has been specializing in Animal Wildlife Paintings and portraits of people for over 40 years. She also has had the privilege to observe the endangered Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga Mountains, and all of Africa's wonderful wildlife. One of these animals, a bobcat named "Precious" was not able to be released, and remained a beloved friend to her family for over twenty years. She has shown her work in Nairobi and Rwanda East Africa, and many Galleries in the United States over her 40 year career. Her work is currently being shown in San Diego, Los Angeles California and The Fine Art museum in Owensboro Kentucky. Also in Owensboro at'Gallery 412' and'Grey ...

Armineh Bakhtanians - I hold degrees in commercial art, design, and interior design from UCLA, Rio Hondo College and Mount. San Antonio college. Although my profession has been in the field of inerior design for many years, creating works of art in watercolor has been my passion. The world is full of colors, shapes, designs, and beauty, if we choose to see it. It keeps on moving to the rhythms of many sorts. As one observer of nature, and creator of art and beauty I am commited to telling stories in forms of shapes and images that have come to me through my herritage of centuries to the PRESENT MOMENT. My father was a great inspiration for me as a child, and led me to the wonderous world of art, and as an artist I am committed to the growth and change in my work just as it is innate in nature. Armineh...

Zoraida Haibi Figuera - Zoraida Haibi Artist Statement My work is a diary or narrative of the relationships that I have with family and people closest to me. There are different components of each individual represented in the works. Use of collage and mix media, allows me to be able to put fragments of each personi?1/2s character in my artwork. Each painting is cultivated through methods of collecting memoirs and stitching them together creating a quilt of memories. Through use of vibrant colors, expressive brushstorkes, cuts in the canvases, sewing surfaces and collage, I am able to convey a medley of these visions. The awkwardness of some of my canvases reflects the indifference for traditional values that is characteristic in the Latin culture and break from the customary size and shape of the canvas. ...

Carlos Pardo - IN SHORT: INSPIRATION: Concious and unconcious perceptions, my background, all circunstances of my life, experiences, past and present, books and newspapers that I read, films, Internet aEUR|feelings, emotions and a fertile imagination sometimes, all them aid to weave a story that will change alongside the execution of a piece. In my opinion our tradition, for thousands of years, the Arts reflect the vision of a trascendent life beyond our tangible life. THEME: Unreal cityscapes let us a special kind of plasticity. The imagination and feelings are active agents that are modeling the perceptible reality. Transcendent and oniric themes entered and remain in my artwork. In my imaginary urban landscapes there are overlaid elements of towns he has visited, some imagined, and maybe dreamed, but all with a unique feminine soul. The Town is a mother, lover, or daughter of the actions, dreams and passions of those who dwell in them or recall them in the distance. It is an idea in which wander those who have been caught up in its infinite labyrinth. PROCESS: I usually have not idea about what I will show on the surface. There is a lack of a script or previous sketch. Forms are born...

Kimmie Hamm - Everywhere you dream to go can become a part of you and everywhere you have been is a part of you. I am an explorer and optimist at heart, so when I set out to create something one word always comes to mind: Possibilities I feel that through art I can explore the visions in my mind, everything from a small flower or blade of grass to distant worlds filled with whimsy and thoughts of what ifaEUR|aEUR|. Culturally I have two aspects that influence me one being my Native American ancestry and the other my German immigrant ancestry. I am deeply rooted in the beauty and wonderment of nature. My wise grandmother told me if you have strong roots your sprit can fly anywhere and still return home. That saying has always stuck with me and in many ways sparked my imagination. The explorer in me must come from my immigrant ancestry. My great grandfatheraEURtms family traveled to America on a steam ship in 1874. I can imagine them traveling for what must have seemed like an eternity. I often contemplate what they must have been thinking, and try to express the excitement of the unknown and the anticipation ...

Wojtek Kowalski - I am a self-taught person. ... My paintings rise from an internal need. I find inspiration in peace and quiet , by observing nature and people. My works show my own vision of the world. By using colours and simple forms I convey feelings and emotions as well as dreams and fantasies. Ideas spring to my mind when nothing happens around me. I am guided by my own sense of beauty and aesthetics. ...

Alex Solodov - Alex Solodov main focus in his art is to work with acrylic paintings, collages, photography and digital animation. ''I love black & white photographs, it reminds me about silent films and I try to make every picture in my photographic art like a strong, sensual movie.''...

Ken Hillberry - In art and in life, dynamics of balance, integrity and tolerant interaction of all elements or participants ought to be see, experienced and maintained. At the same time, the challenge of affecting this balance is creatively encountering all changes and adapt accordingly. For some, the destination or pre-determined outcomes are sought more often than not. Then there are some who savor the journey, thus witnessing and enjoying developments along the way. I fall into the latter category. It's like watching the film develop in a darkroom. the image takes form a little at a time right before my eyes. The creative process, for me, is void of pressure and timeless. The ability and practice and discipline are central in my approach. My creative intent is to engage a viewer in thought and emotion, as well as, with their eyes. Using imagination, retrospect or model, my range of composition can be conceptual, perhaps impressionistic or abstract in application, but always developed to evoke an awareness and appreciation for the relative conditions in life experience and art form as I incisively or playfully interpret my experiences along the way. ...

Sherry Harradence - Sherry M. Harradence Artist Statement: What inspires me is in the form of being challenged with Mixed Media Printmaking that uses a matrix such as plexi-glass plates, copper or blocks that produces one of a kind impressions that are most unique. Monoprint/Relief Printing has a history from as far back as the Masters, Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso, Albrecht Durer and many others. Multiple unique impressions printed from a single matrix are known as variable editions (original and ghost copies AKA). There are many techniques used in Monoprinting, including collagraph, collage, hand painted additions, and a form of tracing by which thick paint or ink are laid down on a monoprint press, registering the paper on the painted plate and passing through the press for the transferring of the paint or ink to the paper. Monoprints can also be made by altering the type, color, and viscosity of the ink or paint used to create different prints. Its a challenging medium and you are also painting in reverse. When I am pulling the first print/edition its like Christmas and cannot wait to see what is under the press blankets. My love for color is an obsession and expressed in ...

Joanna Glazer - The inner images and bold colours Joanna Ewa Glazer incorporates in her work convey a sense of abundance, total immersion into life and optimism. In her paintings, she creates a space of beauty and paradise in the way that shows resilience and strength regardless of circumstances. Each painting is like a poem , a life affirming experience." All her work is also about sense of identity, search for it and hints as to where to find it She finds her sources in fashion magazines, newspapers, books, art reviews, and advertising. Even a simple image in everyday newspapers may awaken emotion. Joanna Ewa Glazer has travelled and lived for long periods in numerous countries: Poland, France, Italy, Japan, USA, Belgium and UK. She was born in Gdansk (Poland).. ...

Julie Richman - The urban landscape is a reference point for the shapes and images I create in paintings, monotypes, drawings, and one-of-a-kind artist's books. Although this idea concerns the environment and is somewhat thematic, the work is abstract in that I use shapes, colors and geometric forms to express in paint, the feelings engendered by life in the concrete world. I transform what I see into a painting populated by shapes, colors, nonexistent dwellings and containers surrounded by fictitious plants, animals, and strange forms of life. These elements become characters in a visual drama within the picture plane, choreographed to take place during the time the work is viewed, much like music or film. ...
