Artists Describing Their Art:
Laura Shechter - I am a still life and cityscape artist and a contemporary realist I paint and draw a moment of ligh with all of its visual contradictions. I work in oils, oi on paper, pencil, silverpoint, watercolr and lithography. I have strong feelings about my still life objects which are carefully observed from life. The relationship between the objects are formal but at times they have an implied narrative. Although my approach tends to be linear and precise, I try to have a beatiful and sensual surface. My cityscapes which are photobased, also discribe one moment of light. The forms and space in these paintings are clear with docrative patterns, windows, trees, graffitti. . Recent cityscapes are industrial ...
Francisco Sillue - Francesc SilluA(c), is a painter with a restless spirit, born on the 24th of February, 1936 in Barcelona. This woutd later cause the mature expressive painter to cast his artists eye upon open-air markets, antique stands, flocks of pigeons on the cobbles and dolls shop windows. These apparently disparate scenes would all be expressed with the same longing, a result of his childhood experiences, to separete and savour each and every detail in a barrage of aromas and colours that he creates with a nutural touch....

Natia Khmaladze - Through my art I try to explore innermost emotions within myself. Each of my work is born from a very personal journey and is a snapshot of a state of mind and sole in one specific moment in time. My characters, at times myself, are portrayed in subtle human moments, when we dare to take the mask off, letting the inner self shine through if only for split second. These precious split seconds are what I try to capture, save and cherish. We all, and so my characters, respond differently to life's challenges - by conforming, rebelling, accepting, renouncing. These are the stories told by my canvases. The catalyst for my art are my travels, self-discovery it entails and people I meet along the way, in remote train stations, in hectic cities on rout to the unknown, unmasked and bare soled. While concept of my pieces tends to be somewhat intovertive and blue, I make up for it by using vibrant, light colours. This is my way of not taking myself too seriously. By creating this contrast, I try to convey message of optimism, that even in our darkest moments, we can't help but retain curious mind, be ...
Barry Greff - ARTIST STATEMENTS Atmosphere Ethereal Sea and Landscapes In a time of great challenge throughout our world, I seek to capture, and foster preservation of, the spectacular natural beauty that still exists on Earth. Each of my photographs stands alone as a testament to the astonishing visual feast that remains on our planet for those willing to seek it out. My sea and landscape images focus on capturing transitory conditions of light and atmosphere as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of life itself. These images memorialize a moment in timeaEUR| never to be repeated. I am drawn to these theatrical moments when elements collide to form moody, ethereal, and dramatic scenes. Of the Wild Intimate, Close-up Animal Portraits It is in various forms of captivity that I find the animals and birds for this series. They are protected from me and I am protected from them. My images capture the life force that is simultaneously controlled, yet untamed. I am drawn to their eyes as that draws the viewer into the frame. The framing device jolts the viewer from reading the images as a clichA(c). By abstracting the eye or face from the rest of the body, I force ...
Maren Tober - "As far as I remember, I was always doing art or some kind of handcrafts. My mother, also an artist, indroduced me in a playful way into the world of art and ever since my passion (and sometimes obsession) for the arts has never left. In my teens, I dedicated my free time to the arts-I spend a lot of time painting with acrylics, doing photography and ceramics. Between the years 1992 and 1998 I traveled a lot. I visited France, Italy, Spain, Greece, the Netherlands, Malta, England, Monaco, the Czech Republic and Austria and got a lot of inspiration and ideas out of these trips. I also chose Fine Arts as a major course in High-School and attended a variety of art courses, workshops and seminars. After High-School and an ecological volunteer year in Cuba I wanted to study fine arts. My decision was influenced by my trip to Cuba, where I had met the Angolan artist Nelson Da Costa (DA'COSTA-
Pina Manoni Rennick - Painting for me is a pleasurable, ongoing journey of discovery. It's a wonderful way to express myself. Colour has always been the constant force behind my paintings - its what I love most. Through my paintings I want viewers to see the colourful beauty that surrounds us and to feel the same sense of joy and excitement I feel when creating them....
Eliza Donovan - When I paint, the colours mix themselves and I just wait impatiently to hear their story. They have a life of their own and I have no choice but to do what they want me to do. When I paint, I'm neither in the present, nor in the past or the future. I forget what "myself" means. I feel a torrent flowing through me and I act, observe and follow. I live in the painting, yet I see it from both outside and inside. ...
