Artists Describing Their Art:

Jerry Di Falco - Photography inspires my hand-pulled etchings and also serves as a key element in my art. My imagery originates from my own photographs and those of other artists. I research my subjects in the archives of universities, historical societies, libraries, museums, and foundations. I attempt to balance visual gravity with the narrations within everyday scenes . . . I hope to create a convergence between the metaphysical and physical aspects of space, time, and reflection. My examination of the familiar strives to unveil the splendors of life that are masked by our assumptions My stories emerge from beneath the surfaces of that which we overlook as a result of our neglected perceptions . . . of that which is frequently visible but overlooked. Ironically enough, I blame this inability to see reality . . . or what I call, the phenomenology of connectedness . . . on todays infatuation with and addiction to the new technologies of communication. I see my artworks as windows through which people can see the undiscovered mysteries of human consciousness. In fact, my use of multiple etching plates to create one etched design helps to reinforce the illusion of looking at a scene through a window. Each individual area created in my multiple-plate etchings becomes a ...

Herman Van Bon - To call him a landscape photographer is akin to describing Table Mountain as a large flat rock. To label him as a graphic artist also leaves much to be desired. A photo-graphic artist Unwieldy and lacklustre. The fact of the matter is that Herman van Bon as a photographer and as an artist is not easily pigeon-holed. Words fall short when describing his work and how he achieves it. In this case, his pictures are more than the sum of their parts. Although a good photographeraEURtms landscapes are far from flat, the observer does, in most cases, get what he or she sees a representation of a country or marine scene. So far, so good. For Herman, however, the capturing of a landscape is just the beginning. It is his playground. He starts to experiment and explore and play, using different kinds of photo-processing and aEUR"developing software and techniques, and, organically, his pictures begin to grow. Layer by layer, the original shot metamorphosises into something extraordinary. Textures, tones, figures, symbols, quirky composites, and what appear figments of the imagination to the eye are included. This process can take weeks. The result is a contemporary, deeply personal ...

Kimmie Hamm - Everywhere you dream to go can become a part of you and everywhere you have been is a part of you. I am an explorer and optimist at heart, so when I set out to create something one word always comes to mind: Possibilities I feel that through art I can explore the visions in my mind, everything from a small flower or blade of grass to distant worlds filled with whimsy and thoughts of what ifaEUR|aEUR|. Culturally I have two aspects that influence me one being my Native American ancestry and the other my German immigrant ancestry. I am deeply rooted in the beauty and wonderment of nature. My wise grandmother told me if you have strong roots your sprit can fly anywhere and still return home. That saying has always stuck with me and in many ways sparked my imagination. The explorer in me must come from my immigrant ancestry. My great grandfatheraEURtms family traveled to America on a steam ship in 1874. I can imagine them traveling for what must have seemed like an eternity. I often contemplate what they must have been thinking, and try to express the excitement of the unknown and the anticipation ...

Wendy Lippincott - Complex allegories dominate the many themes that pervade Ms. Lippincott's paintings. She prefers incorporating science into her art, consistent with her background in electrical engineering, but often gets waylaid with mythological and historical visions. Her paintings are currently only available for licensing. She hopes to have prints available soon. ...

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. I use digital photography and imaging to envision the concepts originating from the creative pulse. An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. Debbi Chan - I am going to do an updated artist's statement. But until I submit it you have a short temporary one. As an artist I an fullfilled and contend. But at the same time I seek more , absorb more, and enjoy more. Art fills and fullfills me..I am always being an artist. My eyes see art always. This is not a hobby that I partake of when time suits. Art feeds me. Art consoles me. And being prolific it also takes my time. And for this I am thankful that i listened to my inner self. I am thankful for a following that grows by the minute. I enjoy you enjoying my portfolio. I also have come to realize that the coined phrase "starving artist" is a reality for some of us. But if you take another quote, my own , you will see that starving and rich pertain to material $. because of you the viewers , and because art is my life and my passion I can truly say that I AM RICH.. RICH WITH NO MONEY... and I can also say with truth that I am happy. I chose the path that allowed this rich life. There will continue ...

Alkistis Wechsler - Reality meets myths. Personal visual impressions of chosen English gardens ... lately also Mediterranean seaside, are coming together in imaginative collages and alchemic transformation. . Sensitive to the environment as well as to human interactions and expressions it all translates into visual myths . Not only travels between geographical points, but also a thirst for such trips in the mind through myths and readings of initiatic rituals of metamorphosis, infiltrated as well my art of painting. At the end, every archetype (for example Heliogabalus, Persephone and Artemis) and every movement reaches back to the source of rhythm and scales creating a personal mythology and so I understand my self and the world after each painting is done by a hypersensitive process and not a premeditated rational plan. The seasons or the elements and their rhythm are interwoven with my vision of human soul and the soul of the sea ...

Sue Johnson - The images presented here are a small sample of art done over the past few years I work in oils, acyrlics, charcoal and pastels. My choice of medium is based on how I feel about my subject matter. I paint or draw whatever attracts me in the moment. Therefore, several themes run through my art --the figure, still life, landscape, and the feminine archetype. I am sustained by my connection to Eastern contemplative practices and from an intuitive sense of connection to the universal spirit of harmony, peace and receptivity. I think this attraction to the mysteries of existence comes through in my art. Please fell free to comment on these works or make a contact if you are interested in seeing more art than that shown on these pages. I will continue to add artwork to this site. Come back soon and see what is new. ...
