Artists Describing Their Art:
Alan Falk - In the tradition of great figurative painting, my work reflects a synthesis of craftsmanship, conscious and subconscious relationships, and emotional and social content. It is an ongoing quest to define the sublime and the ineffable and a deep heartfelt yearning for harmony. I am energized by the belief that here, at the dawning of the 21st century, the process of creating art through traditional media is very much alive and continues to evolve and remains as relevant as it ever was. The primary influences on my current work are diverse Judaic sources including biblical passages, prophetic writings, rabbinical teachings and contemporary Judaic philosophy that shape my conscience. These timeless commentaries, informed by the core moral and universal humanistic values of Jewish tradition and ethos, are an integral part of the shaping of our western civilization, as they encompass a fundamental desire for personal spiritual and global peace, equality and social justice. The jumping off points for my paintings are these universal metaphors and messages of good and evil, questions and commentaries on integrity and moral/ethical choice, parables on mortality and the quest for spiritual connection. Through careful crafting of thematic coloring, expressive line, I attempt to develop a new ...
Stanley Bowman - I am a digital artist, photographer, and painter. I began photography seriously in the late 1950's but turned to creating digital works beginning in the 1980's, My involvement with digital imaging has expanded since then to include still images, digital video, 3D animation, and digital music. My most recent work is from a series of abstract images which I call "pixel paintings". First to create the work at all I have to apply the pixels by hand on a computer screen (painting). Moreover I zoom in to the pixel level of an image to feature the basic building blocks of a still digital imagery. At the same time I also create exact repetitions of groups of pixels which is another defining characteristic of digital imaging. Finally behind it all I am seeking to express my emotions which center around the great excitement I find in this digital exploration and the pleasure in creating mostly abstract shapes and colors out of pixels. I was born and educated in California, and I was a Professor of Art at Cornell University for 27 years, teaching photography and digital art. I also served as Associate Dean and Acting Dean of the College ...
Bodo Gsedl - In my works - portraits of individuals, surroundings and music - my goal is to catch what can not be seen at a glance. What is behind the image of a person? How can I make music visible? My art has to be explored. There is always something behind the first impression. ...
Elio Pastore - Elio Stefano PASTORE was born in Turin (Italy), where he lives and works. He has got a degree in Law, and works in the communication field for a big public company acquiring a twenty-year experience in that sector. He started using PC in 1998 for creative necessities relating to his job, discovering little by little its fascinating power and making it a trustful and indispensable tool. Fond of photography, travels and mountains, he has often put together these interests, getting numerous awards in photography contests and publishing his picture stories on different magazines. His artistic life - started in 1992 - has found in the digital art his ideal medium of expression; infact the digital art allows him to draw inspiration from the objectivity but to filter it through his personal life, so transforming it in an ideal and essential reality, spread through an emotionally intimate atmosphere. From this synergy between a personal sensibility and a technical mastery, were born pictorial imagines devoid of modern references and contaminations, creating a world with no time suspended between magic realism and poetry. Starting from the year 2000, from the original production, he has led in a parallel way, a personal research on forms ...
Ward George - Ward George is a contemporary representational artist interested primarily in the female nude. Having made off with his mother's paint box at the age of nine, Mr. George received his training privately and, formally, at the University of Wisconsin. Although deeply influenced by modern art and its philosophies, he soon embarked on a deeper study of the whole of Western Art. As a result, he has built a foundation drawing from the depth of western tradition as well as more contemporary sources. Mr. George has chosen the nude as an expressive vehicle for three reasons: * first, it is the foundation of Western Art; * second, it is an art form in and of itself; * third, and most importantly, because of his natural sympathies for the human figure and the enduring source of challenges and opportunities it presents. Believing that an artist must bring intellect, emotion and technique to his work, he has taken what he considers of greatest aesthetic value from artists as varied as Rembrandt and Picasso, de Kooning and Ingres, Rodin and Welliver, Matisse, Wyeth, Rubens and Pearlstein. Mr. George's work hangs in private collections throughout the world. ...
Marc Rubin - The works displayed are giclee prints of original digital paintings and photo reconstructions. The concept behind some of these images is to take photographs that were created around the turn of the last century when photography was a new technology being explored as a creative medium, and combining it with today's digital technology to explore the use of digital technology as a new creative medium creating images as unique and one of a kind as hand drawing or painting ...
Sergey Skachkov - Most of all I am really into creating fantasy worlds. Computer graphics with its endless opportunities helps me out to reflect any fantasy with incredible reality. My main source of inspiration is travelling; discovering new places, your perceptive borders expand and your consciousness immediately begins filling up with new images. I don't think those feelings can be expressed by words. ...
